Interviews: Neverlyn
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band Neevrlyn, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Anna: I came up with Neverlyn when I was 14 or 15. I’ve always really loved Peter Pan and the idea of a world to escape to, and music has always been that escape for me. I liked the way Neverlyn sounds, and I liked that it was a one word band name. Over the years it’s just worked and grown with us.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Nisha: I think we pull inspiration from a lot of pop punk and alternate artists so it only felt natural to kind of draw from that inspiration but make it our own.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Nisha: A few of us did. I met Anna in college and we became fast friends and started writing music pretty quickly and Samantha was a coworker of mine who I knew for a bit before she joined.
We met Merik at a show and he later DM’d us cause we were looking for a guitar player and was brought in that way. From there, he brought us Dillon cause they were friends in high school.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Anna: Paramore
Dillon: Blink-182
Merik: Hot Mulligan
Nisha: Paramore
Samantha: The Devil Wears Prada
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Merik: I feel that my inspiration is rooted in my emotions. Whatever I feel on a particular day will translate into a riff or melody.
Anna: Any emotion inspires lyrics I write. My words are very feelings based.
Nisha: Anything really. I usually try to channel an emotion I’m feeling to something to get over it. A form of catharsis almost. Or hearing stories from friends, sometimes what they say can spark something for me.
6. Where was your last gig?
Samantha: Our last gig was in our hometown Livermore, CA at Pine Street Bar.
7. Where would you like to act?
Dillon: Europe
Samantha: I would love to play Red Rock Amphitheater in Colorado
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Samantha: It would be a dream to have a feature with Hayley Williams
Anna: If we’re dreaming big here, I would love to have a song with Lizzo. Could you imagine a pop punk rap song with a flute?
Dillon: Tom Morello would be cool
9. Whom not?
Nisha: We wouldn’t really say no to anyone at this time. You could really vibe with someone in studio but you won’t know unless you try, so always open to collaborations of any kind.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Merik: When I started performing, I took myself way out of my comfort zone. My advice is to keep at it. If you love the music, you’ll love performing. It gets easier as you play more.
Samantha: Yes! More often than not I have stage fright. Avoid drinking caffeine before your set it can make the stage fright much worse, and queso from Chipotle...but on a serious note, as long as your well rehearsed as a band it will help you feel more confident on stage.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Anna: Paramore, Green Day, No Doubt
Dillon: Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine
Merik: Rise Against, Blink-182, Paramore
Nisha: Paramore and Knuckle Puck
Samantha: Knocked Loose And The Story So Far
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Dillon: My grapefruit shirt.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Samantha: I think our fans are QUEENS and we love them as much as they love us.
Nisha: We love them! They’re our friends or at least we try to make them feel that way. Establishing a bond with fans is super important to us cause those are the people that can take your band to the next level. They share with their friends, engage in posted content, show up to shows and if they like us, they tell their friends and the chain continues from there.
14. What do you think of our site?
Anna: It’s awesome!! We love it
15. Something add?
Anna: Go watch the new music video for “Far From Perfect” featuring Zac Eisenstein, go stream Beauty Sleep, and wash your hands!
