Interviews: Cyan
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band, Cyan, from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or
came out just like that?
Lorenzo: The name came out after one of the characters from the
videogame Mortal Kombat. We had to decide between Cyrax and
another character Sektor, but we chose the first one: it’s a name
that make us write and play everything we want, it’s not like
“Death Angel” or “Rotting Christ” where it’s pretty obvious what
you play and sounds!
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Gianluca: This genre of prog music is what we really like, it really
resonates with us and really inspired us to write and create our
own music out of sheer passion for it.
Jacopo: We decided to play progressive and avant-guard ‘cause
we
were tired of conventional language and usual stylistic features
of other genres. Indeed the real band’s aim is to not belong to a
genre, but change even completely album in album!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Gianluca: No, The Band was formed after many rehersal sessions
with many different musicians, to understand who were the most
passionate and hard working people that really believed in the
project.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Gian: Banco, Symphony x
Lore: Rush, Nine Inch Nails
Jacopo: Genesis and from modern
band I also like The Contortionist
Marco: Queen, Toto, Uriah
Heep, Neal Morse, PFM, Alan Parsons
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Gian: Anything that
comes to our mind, we create music while inspired by other
music, there is no static subject or ispiration for our music,
diversity is key to Cyrax
Jacopo: We don’t let inspire us from artists, themes of our lyrics
come
mostly from literature (ancient and modern) and social-political
contests and situations…
6. Where was your last gig?
Lorenzo: With the full line up, 22nd
February! As an acoustic trio, which sometimes we like to do, in a
beautiful location in Northern Italy.
7. Where would you like to act?
Lorenzo: Outside Italy, in
particular in places where we know we can make good
impressions, like Japan and South and North America.
Jacopo: Maybe into an important metal festival as Wacken or
Hellfest
8. Whom would you like to feature with? A gig with an actual
orchestra would be' amazing
9. Whom not?
Lorenzo: Incompetent bands and people,
unfortunately we have met many of them over the years, and it’s
always a though time playing in these conditions.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for
beginners on how to beat that?
Gianluca: A bit of stage fight is
normal at the beginning, my service would be to concentrate on
something that makes you forget your fears, on something that
makes you feel good and gives you confidence, you know you can
play, dont think too much about it and you wont mess it up
Jacopo: I usually suffer about that into classical music (I’ m also a
classical musician) and I think the experience with this band will
be a possibly solution about…
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Gian: Symphony x,
banco, dream theater, megadeth, but we think music in general
never ceased to amaze us in finding new sounds and textures.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you
for?
Lorenzo: I don’t think we’ve had such things, but we’ve had a
fan that flew from Hungary to Milan just to see us!
13. What do you think of your fans? They are great, we are more
than happy to welcome anyone that likes our work to our
community:)
14. What do you think of our site?
Lorenzo: It’s very gorgeous
and informative, we like it!
Jacopo: Personally I like it
15. Something add?
Lorenzo: To every music lover and listener,
keep following and discover the underground scenes all over the
world, there are so many interesting bands who deserves a future
and supporting them it’s the only way to make it happen!
Especially in these though times! Cheers!
