Interviews: Beleth
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Extreme Metal band, Beleth from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
It was planned. It’s probably cheesy as fuck but I don’t care, I love the weird supernatural type shit. In demonology, Beleth is a king of Hell who has 85 legions of demons under his command. Supposedly he rides a pale horse and music is heard before him. I found the name just searching through demon and spirit names, looking for something that suited the dark kinda songs we were writing, and something that sounded cool for a band name. Beleth was one of them, so we decided on that. The idea for the intro track from the album ‘Thirteenth Spirit’ and the outro ‘Denouement’ was how I imagined the music would sound that came before Beleth on his horse. I’ve always loved that creepy, haunting, morbid, demon shit, ever since I was a kid. Weirdo.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Metal is just my favourite genre, and it's always been my favourite to play as well. I started out playing bass guitar and later started playing guitar, and then drums. And it was always metal songs I learned and played.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Nope! We met through an Aussie metal musicians Facebook page. I was looking for someone to record vocals for some songs I had written years ago. Seb responded and sent me a sample recording to one of the songs, and I loved it! I really like his vocal style, and it suited the songs perfectly. We don't even live in the same city!
4. Each band member favourite band?
Mine change regularly, but at the moment it's Baest. I'm really getting into their latest album. Cattle Decapitation is a close second, their latest album is a masterpiece! I was lucky enough to see them live right before the Covid lockdowns started. Seb's all time favourite band is Parkway Drive.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I'm not sure if I'm really inspired by anyone in particular. I have a lot of favourite musicians and bands with certain styles that I like which inspires me to write the kind of songs I do I guess. I like songs with a bit of groove, so I try to incorporate that into the music.
6. Where was your last gig?
We're still a very new band, and formed in the middle of the whole Covid debacle last year, so we're still yet to play any shows in this band. We're in the process of getting together a full line-up to play some gigs hopefully toward the end of the year though. Other than that, the last gig I played was in my old band, Goathanger, way back in 2015. So it's been a very long time for me!
7. Where would you like to act?
At this stage, anywhere! With Covid shows just came to a complete stop. It's good to see some live shows starting to happen again here in Australia. Hopefully we can start seeing some international acts again sometime soon as well. But I'd love to be a part of one of the big European festivals some time. Wacken! Or, 70000 Tons Of Metal! Such an awesome cruise festival that one.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
There's so many bands we'd like to play with, it's hard to narrow it down to just one. But for me, Cattle Decapitation would be one I'd shit my pants to be on a line-up with.
9. Whom not?
Kanye West. Haha.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I wouldn't say stage fright as such, but I do get pretty nervous before shows. Beer is a good way to aid with that!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The band that inspired me to start playing guitar was mainly Metallica. I bought the guitar tab books for the entire discography when I was a kid and played them religiously. I still have them all. As much as everyone shits on the Load and Reload albums, they were my favourite songs to learn on guitar. Then I moved toward their earlier thrash albums after a while. I still suck arse at playing some of those songs though. My downpicking ain’t no Hetfield. Then I eventually started moving toward heavier stuff as I got older.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I've never had any weird requests. But I'm excited for if or when there ever is one. Haha.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We're a fan of anyone who is a fan of our music. We're very grateful to have people that support us and enjoy our music, so we think very highly of all of them.
14. What do you think of our site?
I checked it out for the first time today! Very cool, I like it. I'll be visiting it often from now on. I like the genre's and sub-genre's menu at the bottom of the page to narrow down your interests on articles! Alot of those genre's I have never heard of before! Haha.
15. Something add?
Thanks alot for having me! We'll have another pre-release song and video out on May 26th, so keep an eye out for that. Album pre-orders are also now available at our Bandcamp store. www.BelethAU.bandcamp.com. Prices are discounted for all pre-orders from now until the release date on June 25th!
