Interviews: Perceived
We have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Metal band Perceived from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?
Chris: We actually tried coming up with a name for about two weeks and every name we thought of ended up already being taken. We didn't want any issues with our name once we picked it so we were checking everywhere on all social sites. Finally I came up with Perceived and nobody in the band liked it. Kevin's response was "Name one other good band that begins with the letter P." So I responded with Pink Floyd, Pantera, Primus, and we had a good chuckle about that. The name eventually grew on them and I'm glad it did.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We've always gravitated towards heavier and slower music. So it was only natural to want to write songs that incorporated both.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Chris: Yes, we're practically brothers. Charlie and I have known each other for over 20 years and I've known Kevin for over 10. We played in another band together about 10 years ago that only lasted from 2010 - 2012. After Kevin and I got sober in 2018, we needed something to do with our spare time. So we decided to contact Charlie about just getting together to jam again and it has slowly evolved into what it is today.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Chris: My favorite band always changes. I'm currently really into Mastodon. Their entire discography is absolutely mind blowing.
Charlie: I've been jamming Three Days Grace. With Adam Gontier of course.
Kevin: Mudvayne has and always will be a favorite.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Chris: I guess life is what really inspires us. We try to pull inspiration from the whole spectrum of emotions when writing.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was at a club called O'Riley's in Dallas, TX on December 18th. Our next show is at Amplified Live Friday February 11th, also in Dallas.
7. Where would you like to play?
Chris: We would like to play anywhere that would let us set up our equipment and get loud. Playing Red Rocks Amphitheater would be an amazing place to play for me personally.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Chris: That's a tough one. I don't know if I could name just one. Any well known rock act would actually be pretty cool in my book.
9. Whom not?
Chris: I would never count out working with anybody but I'd probably try to avoid the island boys. Lol.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Chris: I actually suffered from stage fright pretty bad in the beginning. Just thinking about getting on stage in front of people would make me physically ill. Being a drummer/singer honestly made it worse. I was ok if all I had to do was drum, but singing was way scarier. Something about exposing your soul in front of people you don't know was extremely difficult in the beginning. After doing it many times, it just slowly got easier. All you can really do is take that leap. Get up there on that stage and don't let that stop you from doing something you're passionate about.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Chris: I think the main ones that we all can agree on are Nirvana, Tool, Metallica, and Pantera just to name a few. There's really too many to list them all.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Chris: I've heard of some fans asking for some pretty crazy things but for me, it's usually a photo or an autograph. Nothing too wild yet.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We absolutely adore our fans. Without them, we aren't anything. We're very grateful to anyone that gives our music a chance.
14. What do you think of our site?
We like it. Thank you for taking the time to talk to us.
15. Something to add?
We're currently shooting a music video as well as working on writing and recording our next album. We're hoping to be able to release something by the end of the year. For all future shows, updates, and merchandise please visit Perceivedband.com.
