Interviews: The Almas
We have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band The Almas from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like
that?
The word "Almas" means "Soul" in Spanish. In a previous band, I was battling an
alcohol addiction. I felt that I had to restart my life and re-find my soul, inevitably leading
to this band; hence, the band's name "The Almas"
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Personally, I've always loved Rock. It's the only music | have a passion for. The
band's genre will always be based on the members’ creative influences, which in this
case lead us in the rock direction.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Frank: I knew Crystal and Chris from former projects, Josh and Andrew were in a
previous band together. Our paths really crossed when forming this band.
Crystal: Frank and I met two years prior to the formation of The Almas back when I was
a horror host (similar to Svengoolie or Mystery Science Theatre) on a local Wisconsin
station. My show was interviewing his former band.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
That's a very loaded question. I think | can speak for everybody in stating that our
musical tastes are constantly changing. We all have bands that have heavily influenced
us, but we are always finding new favorite bands.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Emotion and circumstance are usually the basis to write songs. Most of our songs are
written in the moment to try to capture raw feeling.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was at a bar near our hometown called The Back Bar in early
December.
7. Where would you like to act?
Ultimately we would love to play overseas in the U.k.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
It would be super cool to feature with the likes of Diamante, Lizzy Hale of Halestorm,
Miles Kennedy, Taylor Momsen, of The Pretty Reckless.
9. Whom not?
Honestly, Drake. I don't think Drake and our sound would work so well. Not saying
that we wouldn't, but I'd have second thoughts. LOL
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to
beat that?
Crystal: I still to this day have many shows where I get overwhelmed with stage fright
Typically, the fear eases up during my vocal warm-ups; I feel confident in my voice and
remind myself that my bandmates got my back no matter what.
Frank: My advice would be if this is something that you love, you are the only one who
can hold yourself back. Don't be afraid to do what you love, and never let others try to
stop you.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Crystal: My earliest memory of myself singing was of "One Way Or Another" by
Blondie. Growing up, I listened to an incredibly wide spectrum of genres, but two very
different artists that have stuck with me would be Taylor Swift and Queen.
Frank: Well, ACDC with their simple yet massive guitar tones and pure energy has made
them my biggest influencer.
12. What is the weirdest thing a fan has asked you for?
Crystal: At the moment, the weirdest thing would be the placement of an autograph...I've
been asked to sign a few rear ends and had women pull their boobs completely out of
their shirts.
Frank: A fan wanted me to lick my guitar pick for them so they could try to make a clone
of me, and another needed my assistance removing her nipple tassels. I humbly obliged
for both.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are simply the best. They have on numerous occasions offered us a place to
stay, shower and eat, not to mention all the online support with our new releases, etc.
14. What do you think of our site?
I really like the “Behind the Tracks” section. I like getting an in-depth look into why a
song was written, or just the thought process of other artists.
15. Something to add?
Well, make sure to follow the band on Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, etc! Also, check
out our latest release “Reflection” which sports a lyric video. It’s a track that shines a
limelight on mental health awareness - a topic we feel very deeply about.
