Interviews: DOUBTING THOMPSON
This is a new interview with the Thrash Metal/Crossover solo artist DOUBTING THOMPSON from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Actually, my wife came up with the name years ago when we were playing together doing an acoustic cover show...I kind of rejected it at the time because I didn't want my name on it. When I started up the thrash metal studio project with me doing all of the instruments and singing, I revisited it. Also, I'm an atheist so it made sense for the project.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I came upon thrash when the Big 4 were just coming out. In my first band, we were playing stuff like Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer covers. I still remember the energy of those days, really hammering it out in the garage, battle of the bands, stuff like that. With Doubting Thompson I'm kind of going back to that, to recapture that vibe. But also inject some shred elements in there as well with the solos.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Well, it's a one-man project currently so I'd say I've always known the members quite well...
4. Each band member favourite band?
It's hard to pick a favorite band because I have a lot of influences. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Exodus, Yngwie...
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Inspiration for riffs just kind of comes out of thin air so to speak. It will pop into my head or just come out from me sitting down practicing. The lyrics usually come later, inspired by something I'm pissed off about.
6. Where was your last gig?
Back in the day it was battle of the bands at clubs, playing the bars and such...the last live gig I played was an acoustic performance in the late 2000s. Since then I've strictly been concentrating on studio work. That could change in the future but that's where it's at currently.
7. Where would you like to act?
Acting? As in a movie? Something by Tarantino, Eli Roth, or Rob Zombie.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
In a movie, I'd definitely want to feature with Bill Moseley.
9. Whom not?
I would not want to feature in a movie with Mark Wahlberg.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I've had bouts of stage fright. My advice? Make sure your amp is as loud as possible.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
I'd say Led Zeppelin inspired me a hell of a lot, Sabbath and Purple as well, the original Holy Trinity of Heavy. For thrash, I'd say Exodus, Testament, and Sodom. Especially their new stuff. I also dig shred guys like Tony Macalpine and Joe Stump.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I've never had a DT fan ask for anything weird honestly.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I'm very appreciative of the people who take the time to listen to and support my music, even when it's simply positive feedback.
14. What do you think of our site?
I think your site is excellent, and the roster of artists you've worked with speaks for itself!
15. Something to add?
I'd just like to say I'm very excited to have been added to the roster at Sliptrick Records and am looking forward to the release of my EP "Revelations" on May 31st.
