Interviews: ANVILHAMMER

This is a new interview with the Thrash  Metal artist ANVILHAMMER from New Zealand. Check out the interview and follow the artist on his INSTAGRAM PROFILE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that? 

When I was writing the songs I thought they were constantly pounding like a relentless hammer and I was thinking of the heaviest metal name possible... It's a nod to the old-school thrash metal bands of the 80s which I'm influenced.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I discovered Thrash Metal in the mid-80s back when it had a more skater/color vibe. It's always been the music of choice. Especially thrash from 85-91 years. I also have a good voice for this kind of music and can play a bit of guitar. There are also no rules when it comes to this style of music

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

This is a solo project... I left my old band as I can work faster alone. So I'm taking care of every instrument. Have built up my own studio so I can do the complete project from start to finish in-house.

4. My favorite bands?

Exodus, OverKill, Slayer, Anthrax, Kreator, Testament, etc...

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Basically anything current in the news.. or events or people from history.. again no rules when it come to writing.

6. Where was your last gig?

The Live music scene in New Zealand is virtually nonexistent, we have 2 venues in our largest city that are the size of standard homes living room and if you are lucky you could do a maximum of about 10 gigs in a year. it became obvious that putting my time into setting up a recording studio and recording good quality metal first, was way better spent than putting a live band together ( I can do that later.) my old band 'subtract' did many gigs in Australia/NZ over the years when the scene was more healthy, so its not something I need to do for the time being. 

7. Where would you like to act?

I wouldn't like to act at all. I would like to shoot lots of movie weapons however

The Movie' Predator ' chuck me into the team.

10. Have you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Just practice lots... That's it... I am able to sing and play guitar at the same time on stage while also thinking about what I'm going to have for breakfast the next day... so essentially 3 things at once. The funny thing is at the end of the song you cant actually remember just playing it.. unless you make a mistake which you will remember.. but it just comes from playing the songs over and over again

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I think if you crossed the 'M.O.D gross misconduct' album with 'Sepultura beneath the remains' you would end up with ANVILHAMMER as well as the bands I have already mentioned etc... I really Love Duran Duran and Prince as well

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing weird.. just to sign stuff.. good ones buy me a drink.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I'm just happy anyone listens to my stuff really, there is so much choice these days, if you can get people to listen to your music for 30 mins then you have done great! so thanks fans!!

14. What do you think of our site?

I think it is really good... I need to check out some new bands on there
