Interviews: Dez Dare

This is a new interview with the Punk Rock artist Dez Dare from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

I hadn't been writing and recording for quite a few years as I was focusing on my record label, but the pandemic gave me loads of time to build a studio and get back to making noise. The noise is the key. Thinking back to the records I grew up with like The Leather Nun's 'Slow Death EP', Sonic Youth's 'Kill Yr. Idols' and anything by Blue Cheer for inspiration I also looked to my past for the name. One of my oldest friends Rachel has always called me Dez. My stage name in my first band Warped was Darren Dare. There you have it. Old meets new.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I like weird ideas and sounds, mixed with melody. So I make catchy songs with weird structures and sounds. Oh, and fuzz pedals galore! If you can't be creative with what you do, why would you bother? It's an expression of ideas in sound that shouldn't be restricted by convention.

3. Your favorite bands?

See below.

4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Existential nihilism and the satisfaction of annoying neighbors, friends, and family with a cacophony of nonsense.

5. Where was your last gig?

Only played two. Pandemic hey! The Hyde Park Book Club in Leeds and the New Cross Inn in London. More to come!

6. Where would you like to act?

I haven't acted since my terrible performance in God Spell when I was 12. Worst vocal performance ever and confirmed my whole view on religions. Not for me.

7. Whom would you like to feature with?

Pretty happy doing my own thing. Refer to question 5.

8. Whom not?

As above.

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Not stage fright but super wired beforehand. No advice.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

O Sees, The Stooges, Devo, The Leather Nun, The Carpenters, Herb Alpert, Gilla Band... too many to mention.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Fans don't ask weird things. When I was much younger I was asked for an autograph at a festival and the two young women walked off asking each other who I was. Does that count?

12. What do you think of your fans?

I love each and every one of them, all 1,049. 1050 by tomorrow 😉

13. What do you think of our site?

It's a very lovely website.

14. Something to add?

Have a good one 🤘
