Interviews: Descent Of Man
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band, Descent Of Man from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or came out just like that?
Our first vocalist, Dave Sikorski, had come up with the name based on the writings of Charles Darwin.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We all, collectively, have been interested in this style of music for a very long time. It was just a chance that we all found each other to make brutal music. Where we live isn’t exactly the biggest area. We found our first vocalist, Dave, on Craigslist.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Tanner: I had known a few of the players for a while. I went to school with Mike Kenitz (the drummer) and I met Patrick Holahan in a different band years ago.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
That’s a pretty hard question to answer, honestly. It can really depend on the mood, but here are some examples. Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Analepsy, Necroticgorebeast, Archspire, Ophidian I, Deeds of Flesh.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The love and appreciation for this style of music are what would inspire us to write the music that we do. Patrick or Dane starts by writing riffs. Then, Tanner will write bass lines as Mike comes up with the drumming he wants to do. We’ll make a scratch track and our vocalist, Josh, begins writing the lyrics.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was in Winona, MN at our favorite watering hole, the No Name Bar.
7. Where would you like to act?
We’d all like to eventually tour Europe and play a lot of the bigger festivals around the world.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Tanner: I think it would be cool to have John Gallagher from Dying Fetus do a feature on one of our albums someday.
9. Whom not?
We won’t outright cold-shoulder anybody in the scene. Any offer will be up for consideration.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
I feel like when you’re first starting out, that pressure to perform well, not screw up, and be engaging with the audience is massive. That in itself can cause anxiety/stage fright. Sometimes, it can take a while to get over it. Just remember, the people are there to have a good time and so are you. You have to remember to just be in the moment.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The biggest one for us has got to be Dying Fetus. The guys have been around for a long time and have been consistently writing insanely brutal music without compromising their sound.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Our fans haven’t really had any weird requests. Usually, they just want to talk and maybe sign something. Nothing wrong with that.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love our fans!
14. What do you think of our site?
We love your site!
15. Something to add?
Stay brutal!
