Crimson Falls - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you a new interview to the Metalcore/Death Metal band Crimson Falls from Belgium. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview and also like their FACEBOOK PAGE
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Well; years ago we made a list of possible band names and ‘Crimson Falls’ was on that list. I don’t know where it exactly came from, but a friend of one the band members came up with it. We took through the list of names with the band, voted and baptized our band Crimson Falls. We could have ended up with ‘Infinitum Of Mortal’ or ‘Seraphim Cries’ as well; so pretty happy we went for ‘Crimson Falls’ ;-)
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Death Metal/Metalcore is the genre we grew up with. And this is the story for everyone involved in this band. So when we started playing music, metal/hardcore was the first thing that came out of our instruments. In the beginning we wanted to copy our idols but time passes. With this new line-up we all contribute new elements into our sound. Kristof and Wim always played metalcore & Deathcore. Our new guitarist Jay comes from a more melodic-theoretical-background while our bass-player Nijn has more of a Funky-Groove -background. I have played mostly in death/grindcore- bands. So we all have our own style we put in this band. I think you can hear it when you compare this album with the previous 2 albums who where recorded with another drummer and guitar player. Deathcore could be the name for the genre we play but there are many other elements that come from non-metal styles as well.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Hard to say since I was the last member to join the band. But as far as I know it was Kristof who started the band in 2002 together with the first drummer Sigi and guitarist Ringo. I guess they knew each other from the local scene at the time and some previous bands. I’m not sure if Wim and Nijn knew the members in the band before they joined because they where living to far away from the region that Crimson Falls originates from. But then again that is the case for everyone else who joined the band the last years. Jay for sure knew the band because he interimed two years as a stand-in guitarist. Personally I also met some of the members and past members before I joined. I got to know the original drummer Sigi through some personal lessons I gave him almost ten years ago. And I also met Wim a couple of times at festivals, party’s, gigs,… . So yes, it’s fair to say that the new line-up knew each other whether it was personally or from the Belgian metal-scene.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Our singer Wim & guitar player Kristof are very much into technical stuff. Their favourite bands are Whitchapel and All Shall Perish. Whitechapel is Jay’s (guitars) favourite deathcore band as well. Our bass player Nijn is more into groove and rhythmic stuff like Messhugah. I’m more into the old-school deathmetal like old Suffocation/Cannibal Corpse.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Lyric-wise we are inspired by social topics that affects us in a positive or negative way. This has been the case throughout all the CF-albums. The lyrics are very important to us and Kristof spends a lot of time doing research on every topic he is writing about. We also proclaim a positive attitude in life. Music-wise deathmetal and hardcore are the main inspirations all though we have strayed from that path on our last album where we combined our sound with samples, hip-hop and even a dubstep-Dj. All very interesting stuff to do but who knows if we are going to follow that path for the next release?
6. Where was your last gig?
I believe our last gig was on the 15th of November 2013 when we gave a CD-Releaseshow in HOLLAND for our new album Downpours of Disapproval. This was the last one in a series of shows we did to promote the album. I think the place was called Het Kompleks in Heerhugowaard (HOL). After this we took a long break to set new goals for 2014 and to pick up our social life again. All hell will break loose again in February 2014 and it won’t stop until July 2014 before we are even thinking about taking a break again.
7. Where would you like to act?
There are many places we haven’t been yet. So far we did international tours in 12 different countries but we haven’t set foot outside Europe yet. That would be cool. For me personally I would like to go to Australia for instance but I’m sure the rest of the band would prefer the United States for their scene ofcourse…hahaha. Or how cool would Russia be or Japan!? I mean there are many places we would like to go but for now we will focus on spreading our name in Europe.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Good question! I haven’t really thought about that. I’m sure you want me to drop a few big names such as All Shall Perish, Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Faceless, Despised Icon (rip), Aborted,…. The thing is we already played with them! Therefore it would be cool if we could share the stage with some other artists outside the metalscene. Seasick Steve for example. I hear he lives in the same town as some of the Emperor-members. ….let’s give metal the blues!!
9. Whom not?
I guess anything/anyone we cannot relate to. But that doesn’t really matter anyway. In the past I have performed on many occasions in places filled with non-metalheads, with non-metal bands and if you play a good show everyone who is into music can like your band. Isn’t this what it is all about after all…spreading your music??
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
I have been inspired by all kinds of musicians/bands in all kinds of genre but my first real love was metal! In the beginning I liked the mainstream metalbands like Iron Maiden and Slayer but soon I liked my music more aggressive. Death and Black metal became my new revelation. Ever since I have followed the metal scene in all its forms going from pagan-metal to Deathcore. Although after taking a decent look at your website I have to admit I never heard about NintendoCore so far. **!+ man, I’m getting old!!
11. What do you think of our site?
Keep on spreading the metal man!! Bands need this kind of forums where they can present themselves to the masses. Everything looks very nice and I like the fact that you put certain bands in the picture (bands of the month/bands of the week)!! It looks like you really put a lot of work into this site!! Good luck and thanx for the interview!!
