Between Human And Beasts - Interview
Hey Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview, in this case to the Metalcore/Post-Hardcore band Between Human And Beasts from Barcelona (Spain). We have nothing more to say about this great band, so of course like their FACEBOOK PAGE and give them a listen.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Well, it kinda has two different meanings. The first one is a reflection of the actual society. If you take a look out there you’re gonna see that there are just a few humans. In the present moment some people look more like beasts, being aggressive and judgmental most of the time. So we find ourselves “between humans and beasts”. The second meaning is a little bit more personal. When we listen to Hardcore music or when we go to a gig of a band that we like, we feel like beasts in the crowd. We forget about anything else, feeling and living that music. We try to convey that in every BHAB gig, we like to see our fans turning into beasts. So, at the end of the day, what is between us (humans) and our crowd (beasts), is our music.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Every member of the band would agree with the idea of considering hardcore or metalcore as the genre that fills up the most. Whether is for writing, playing or listening to, it’s just the thing that we LOVE to do.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yeah. Milton, Chris, Nezar and Bill formed a band together while in high school. after months playing with another frontman they met Paul and decided to make a change and start with BHAB’s project.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Paul Mace: Bring Me The Horizon
Chris Durán: While She Sleeps
Milton Salazar: Crown The Empire
Nezar Kamal: August Burns Red
Bill Cunillera: Issues
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
It’s a way to express ourselves, to talk about all the shit we’ve been through, just grab a guitar, drums or a mic and play some tunes that represent who we are. Forget our shitty daily problems, just pick the ones that really matter and talk about them in our songs. We wanna share with the world out there our enthusiastic mindset. Spread our crowd’s eyes without building any walls. We don’t put any limit on achieving our dreams, and all we want is to write music and reach the biggest crowd we can. This kinda mindset is mainly our inspiration and motivation to keep it up every day.
6. Where was your last gig?
We’ve been playing a lot of gigs lately, here in Catalonia. Last one was in Razzmatazz (Barcelona) in a one day mini-festival, next to international bands such as To Kill Achilles and Shoot The Girl First.
7. Where would you like to act?
Just outside of Spain, outside of a shitty dead country for the music, with a super tiny scene with a really close-minded mindset. UK and USA are our dream. Countries where there is actually a real big and growing scene, where people truly support the bands (local and international) by attending to the gigs every week. You find this in some countries around Europe too, and the asian market is also growing and getting more and more interesting. As we said, we don’t put any limits in our career hahaha. But basically we’d love to live in the USA. Music is a hard world in general, but at least you’ve got some real chances in the States or UK which we clearly don’t have in Spain.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Wow. That is such a difficult question. Alright, despite of our favorite bands singers, for obvious reasons, we’d love to feature with people a little bit more “available” (lol) such as Aidan Coogan from Wounds, Chris Fronzak from Attila, Mark Steppie from To Kill Achilles, Scott Kennedy from Bleed From Within… Man, we’d never end!
9. Whom not?
We would say musicians that we don’t like or bands that really had disappointed us such as We Butter The Bread With Butter for canceling the spanish tour for NO reason at all and leave us and the other local bands alone. But it’s always nice to make new music with great musicians. So, why not?
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
We always feel nervous before jumping on the stage, but we see that as a positive thing, a kind of hype, you know. Anyway, nerves disappear once we start playing and focus on our crowd. We haven’t really suffered any kind of serious stage fright, but we’d say this to beginners: “Just let it go, feel the music you play and try to connect with the people who’s feeling it too down there in the crowd”. After years of practice, this is the only thing you think about when you face your gigs.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Our favorite hardcore bands of course, but we also listen to other genres such as: indie, acoustic, electronic, deathcore… Some other bands are: Chelsea Grin, Northlane, Heart in Hand, Being As An Ocean, Of Mice & Men, Attila, Miss May I, Architects, The Strokes, The Kooks, Nirvana, Linkin Park, Borgore, Skrillex, Diplo, La Dispute, Knife Party and basically all the kickass music out there
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
There is actually not really weird stuff a part from signing boobs or butts haha. Once a girl asked Paul to go behind the trees for a blow job. LOL
13. What do you think of your fans?
It is amazing to have people following us and receive such a good feedback from your work.. It’s the main thing that keeps us motivated every day, we want to blow their minds up with the new stuff! We are so grateful for having them, coz due to them all this is actually possible.
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s always cool to have great people like you guys and some other blogs interested in our scene and unsigned bands. We are sure every band would thank you guys so much for this. We’ve been checking your site and all we can say is that your work is on a cool professional level, there is some real quality in here. And this is what’s important when you run a site like this, coz you have a lot of blogs and webs out there but not everybody works with the same passion. Awesome guys.
15. Something to add?
First of all, thank you guys very much for liking our Debut EP “Perseverance” and getting interested on us. This interview was really fun and interesting. Just stay tuned coz the new shit it’s gonna blow everyone’s brain, and we are gonna have a blast in every BHAB gig. We really feel like we are growing up every day as musicians and live “beasts” too! Cheers, we send all our love to Breathing The Core crew.
