Eyes Cast Skyward - Interview

Hey Breathing The Core fans! Here we bring you the second interview of this day. In this case to the Technical Deathcore  band Eyes Cast Skyward, from Perth (Australia). They are epic so nothing more to say than enjoy the interview and like their FACEBOOK PAGE!

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Well we were originally called Alizarin Haze but we all got sick of it pretty quick, due mostly to the fact that no one could remember, spell or pronounce it. After months of trying to come up with a new name, one day after a practice and a few beers Sam threw out Eyes Cast Skyward as an idea and we all agreed on it.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We've always been passionate about music and we feel that the heavier genres tend to be the most expressive and rewarding, both emotionally and musically.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Sam, Brandon and myself (Jaxon) all knew each other since primary school. Sam and I played in a couple of different bands together over the years before forming the band with Brandon. We later recruited Toby and Matt who we knew through friends who were in other local bands.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Well we all have fairly similar tastes. Collectively I'd say our favourite bands are Veil of Maya, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon, Born of Osiris, Animals As Leaders and Aversions Crown to name a few.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Most of the bands above have inspired us in some way. We also believe it's important to have a creative outlet and do something you really enjoy doing. Playing music is both of those things for us and that's what inspires us to keep creating it.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at the Beat nightclub in Northbridge. We got to play with some awesome bands including local talents Tusk and Severtone.

7. Where would you like to act?

One of our favourite places to play is the Civic hotel. We've had so many great gigs there with so many great bands, I feel like it's become extremely comfortable for us to play there. We'd obviously love to get the opportunity one day to play a festival like Soundwave or even touring overseas at some point to play one of the bigger metal festivals in America.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

In the long term we'd be stoked to play with any of our favourite bands listed, but for now we're happy playing with the amazing bands that are in Australia at the moment.

9. Whom not?

I honestly can't think of any band or artist we wouldn't want to play a show with... except maybe One Direction or Justin Beiber, although I think Sam is a big fan of them too and would probably relish the chance to play a show with them.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

To be honest, we're usually pretty confident before performing. The only time I can remember being nervous was at one of our earlier gigs where I felt we weren't as tight with the material as I would have liked. In those rare cases, a few beers before hand usually helps settle the nerves.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I'd say Veil of Maya is probably one of our biggest influences, but we've listened to so many bands over the years there's no telling what we've absorbed and what influences have somehow found their way into our sound.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Outside of a venue after we had finished playing a gig, a lady came up to me and asked if I'd like to purchase any sexual favours... I'm not sure if she was a fan of the band but she seemed to be a pretty big fan of me and Brandon. I think her name was Candy...

13. What do you think of your fans?

Honestly we've been overwhelmed by the support of our fans. Their willingness to support local talent so diligently has made us realise how passionate fans of our genre can be. Really awesome.

14. What do you think of our site?

I've gotta say I'm really liking the layout of Breathing The Core. Anything that helps get people connected with music has definitely got our support.

15. Something to add?

Well if I can shamelessly plug here for a second, I'd just like to mention we've got an upcoming EP "Fractures" that we're releasing on the 5th of march, 2014 so keep an eye out for that one.
