For I Am King - Interview - Breathing The Core

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name was brought in by the wife of Jurgen (guitar). It's a phrase of a movie she didn't like, but the phrase 'For I Am King' sounded really cool.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

The metal, hardcore scene is a scene for us where we can be ourselves. We al grew up with metal, punk and harcore music so fur us al this was more than logical. Musically we want to challenge ourselves as musicians and metal is for us challenging.

3.Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, three members of us played in a band berfore For I Am King the other two members played in other bands. We often shared the stage with each other and did some touring together. From day one there was a special vibe between us. After the former bands broke up we deceided to combine forces and formed For I Am King.

4.Each band member favourite band?

This is very difficult, because there are to many.

Wouter: Cro Mags, At the Gates, Andy James, Darkerst Hour
Jaap: Bleed from Within, Afterr the Burial, Born of Osiris
Alma: Arkangel, Darkest Hour, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Ghost Inside
Jurgen: First Blood, Texas in July, Thy Art Is Murder, Darkest Hour

5.Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We really love writing music. The inspiration for riffs depends on the moment we write songs, but mostly w're influenced by other bands. Lyrically wise we don't ode to lost love or dealing with politically issues. The lyrics Alma writes are inspired by all day real live events.

6.Where was your last gig?

We didn't play any giggs yet, we are planning our first shows for the beginning of 2014. Maby you can hook us up in your area

7.Where would you like to act?

It doesn't really matter for us, we just want to play as many shows as possible. But we would love to play shows abroad and on some 'bigger' summer festivals.

8.Whom would you like to feature with?

Also a difficult one. Maby someone from bands which inspired us. It also depends on the song or the moment w're in.

9. Whom not?

We really don't know, we are not the judging types.

10.What bands have inspired you the most?

Musically we're inspired by all sorts of bands in the hardcore and metal scene. From Iron Maiden to Madball, all have inspired us to make music.

11.What do you think of our site?

We love the fact that you guys are supporting the 'underground' bands. I (Jurgen) often check your site to check out some new, young, talented bands. Keep up the good work guys!!
