Megosh - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you a new interview to the Progressive Rock/Post-Hardcore band Megosh from USA. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview and also like their FACEBOOK PAGE cause these band is epic.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Growing up in our generation, we experienced some awesome cinematic releases (and yes, we are VHS kids). We love those childhood reminiscent cult classics like Monster Squad, The Goonies, and (obviously) Little Monsters. We almost called ourselves Shadow Brook, which is the road Dracula lived on in Monster Squad; however, we went with a Lucas production instead. Megosh is a character in one of his films. You guys figure out the rest :)
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
What genre are we? There was no plan necessarily to "sound" like any one in particular or fall into any specific category. I honestly believe it is our diverse musical influences and respect for the art of music itself that fuels our writing style.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes! And no... First off, Finch and I (Josh) went to elementary school together and always lived right around the corner from another. Ironically, it wasn't till our late teens, early twenties that we started working together. The story is almost unbelievable. I was tired of playing with musicians with less drive and dedication than myself; I knew I had to move on. I looked for Finch on MySpace in hopes to find him. I don't know why I chose this particular day but I was determined to contact him. After searching all over the net for him, I realized it wasn't happening. So I called off the search for the moment and decided to check my inbox and much to my surprise, Finch had sent me a message! I couldn't believe it. What are the odds? He said "hey man what's up?" I responded "get over here now!" And he replied "walking. There now." We never stopped writing music! Jon-John was the drummer in Baltimore everyone wanted. A little intimidated, I decided to just ask him about possibly jamming together and luckily he said "hell yeah, man." Derv was craigslist ;)
4. Each band member favourite band?
I (Josh) grew up on NOFX and Saves The Day; however, I am a huge fan of Ray Charles and pretty much that whole Motown era of music, Finch always played technically. He has wife influences like myself but he grew up on Coheed and The Mars Volta. Derv says "that's easy! Early Genesis (The Peter Gabriel era) Meshuggah, and Gojira for Jon-John! Getting the picture of why Megosh is Megosh now?
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our fans, friends, struggle (period)
6. Where was your last gig?
Well our last gig would have to be last nights gig in Atlanta Georgia at The Masquerade during The Decade Tour! We had a blast! Love that venue.
7. Where would you like to act?
We are pretty much playing everywhere in the states we wanted to during this tour now (sans Portland) but who wouldn't wanna rock Japan?! Or South America!!!
8. Whom would you like to feature with? Whom not?
This is a tough one! We are pretty open to whatever and whomever honestly. We just want to cast features tastefully. I mean, we would love to just throw Bowie on a track but if we don't have a part that's fits for his vocals then sorry, Bowie... No Megosh feature for you.
9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Sort of... We all get nervous before shows but I believe that's the anticipation and adrenaline rushing through us. We love the stage. Let's personify the stage for a moment; if you let her, she will swallow you. You must go out there and chew that stage up!!!
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
You already asked us that, right?
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
There was this sweet chick we met in New York last summer when we first played Webster hall. She suffered from a condition that left her completely bald. Though we thought it was cool rather than "weird," she asked us to sign her head! And we did :) That girl has so much courage, and our respect!
12. What do you think of your fans?
We think of them as friends. They support us and criticize us! They are empathetic with our message! That sounds like a friend to us.
13. What do you think of our site?
Well formatted and very professional! We are honored to have been part of the site and this interview!
14. Something to add?
We are grateful for everyone who believes in us. We are doing this from the bottom! We refuse to purchase YouTube views and FB likes. There is no veil or veneer concealing who we are as musicians or people. We thank Breathing The Core and Alt Press for the recent support and interest! This was great! Thanks guys!!!
