Oceans Ate Alaska - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you a new interview to the Post-Hardcore/Progressive Metalcore band Oceans Ate Alaska from UK. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview and also like their FACEBOOK PAGE
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We are named after the mega tsunami that hit the coast of Alaska, Lituya Bay in 1958. The wave was over 500 meters high and the biggest ever recorded in history, thats taller than the Empire State building. Wikipedia it!
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Because it’s the music we grew up listening too.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Chris(Drums) and Jibs(Guitar) have known each other and played together since the age of 13. When James(Vocals) joined a couple of years ago after an online advert we created ‘Oceans Ate Alaska’. The addition of Mike(Bass) and Adam(Guitar) came shortly after through friends of friends.
4. Each band members favourite band?
James Harrison - Real Friends
Chris Turner - Circle Of Contempt
Adam Zytkiewicz - Architects
James (Jibs) Kennedy - Structures
Mike Stanton - Dance Gavin Dance
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Seeing people around the world being able to relate to our lyrics; to help people through the hard times in life and to see people enjoying themselves at our shows. They’re the reason we do what we do. We make music because we enjoy it and if other people dig it too, then thats a bonus.
6. Where was your last gig?
Bristol, United Kingdom on tour with Bless The Fall. Couldn't of imagined the amount of people that turned up for us, even though it was the first time in that town. Great crowd, and a brilliant way to round off an insane tour.
7. Where would you like to act?
Touring the USA is the big one, we realise most of our fan base is from the states but getting over there when you are an unsigned band takes a hell a lot of money, time, effort and luck. Hopefully 2014 will change that.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Snoop Dogg. 4/20
9. Whom not?
Katy Perry, we’d spend all our time fucking rather than playing shows.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright?
Any tip for beginners on how to beat that? No, but I guess all I can say is just enjoy yourself, and don’t worry about what other people think.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We all listen to so many different genre’s it’s hard to say… Anyone that inspires others to pick up a guitar, some drum sticks, or a mic and make music with they're best friends.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
If they could eat the rest of a Banana I’d only half eaten and left in our tour van. It was bruised and disgusting but they seemed to enjoy it…
13. What do you think of your fans?
They’re awesome, hanging out with people in different cities is the coolest thing ever. We make the effort to spend as much time with our fans as possible because they're the reason why we’ve come so far. Without fans, we’d be nothing.
14. What do you think of our site?
The site is dope, anyone who puts they're time and effort into helping support unsigned music deserves a f***king beer. Thanks for featuring us!
15. Something to add?
We just got back from the USA where we recorded our Debut Album with Josh Wickman of Dreadcore Productions (Producer of ‘Within The Ruins - Elite’ and many more). It’s set to be released within the first half of 2014, and is a lot more technical and progressive than anything we’ve written before. Follow our Facebook and Twitter for news and updates, our Debut Album is coming soon!
