The Picture Of Dorian Gray - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Metalcore band The Picture Of Dorian Gray from USA, so here you can see and give a like their FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, enjoy this excellent interview of this more excellent band.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The name for the band came from a book by Oscar Wilde by the same name. The over all theme is retribution for sin and since we were a Christian band at the time that seemed appropriate. We still have Christian members in the band but not everyone in the band is Christian so we kind of shed the Christian label.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
I (Bobby McGruther - Vocals) got into metal because it was aggressive and it was a constructive way to get out all those negative emotions I was feeling at the time. When I became a Christian it metal became a platform for me to share my faith. I considered not being in a metal band after I had found my faith but the problem was I was still pissed but for other reasons so while for a while I was sharing my faith on stage more, now I'm not so much about that. Metal is a very organic and honest art form and I think that's what attracted us to it on one way or another.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Me and our drummer, Chris started the band. We had a lot of different players come and go. Chris knew Ian (Guitar/Vocals), Brian (Keys) and John (Bass) from another band he had been in called The Son Of Leeds. I'd become familiar with them over the years. I knew Stu (lead guitar) from college. John, joined a two years ago and Brian crashed my birthday party that year. Ian and his brother came as well and we all got friendly. We lost our guitarist/clean vocalist and Ian jumped in to help us out.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Well my all time favorite band is August Burns Red. As for the other members I can't say for sure. We all like similar bands. We're all really influenced by bands like ABR, The Black Dahlia Murder, and various other hardcore, death metal, metalcore, and deathcore bands.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Lyrically I pull from a place of honesty. We all have these feelings that we are afraid to express so we put on these masks that we wear around people because we're afraid to let everyone see how hurt and flawed we really are. I try to write from that flawed place. Musically we just want to write stuff that we enjoy listening to. We want to connect with people and we want them to have fun jumping around with us.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig...I don't remember. Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ I think. We haven't been out in a while since we were recording an album.
7. Where would you like to play?
We'd love to play summer festival tours, Warped, Mayhem, Summer Slaughter, stuff like that.
8.Whom would you like to feature with?
I'd really like to tour with Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, August Burns Red, Suicide Silence, Whitechapel or any of those bands really.
9. Whom not?
I'm a big proponent of not starting beef with other bands. So as long as we're treated well I'm down for touring with whomever.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright?Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I still have stage fright and I'm the frontman. How I beat it is I just have to stay confident. Sometimes it's as simple as me looking at myself in the mirror before we go on and just saying, "You can do this, you're gonna go out there and be a fucking beast, you're gonna kill it, and people are gonna go nuts." My main tip for someone suffering from stage fright is to keep in a positive mind set. If you keep telling yourself you can't do it, your gonna suck and not be able to do it.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
August Burns Red definitely. They're great dudes and really an encouragement to be around. With all the people they meet they make a point to try and remember every ones name. I met Jake on a few different occasions and he always remembered my name and genuine asked how I'm doing.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A teenager scene girl once asked if I could buy her Four Loko. People ask if they can wear my glasses a lot. Never got asked anything too strange...yet.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I love them. They're the reason we get to do what we do. Every single one of them is special to us. Even the ones who ask us to buy them Four Loko. (btw we don't buy minors alcohol, sorry)
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is...AWESOME! Keep it up!
