After Hour Animals - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Post-Hardcore/Experimental band After Hour Animals from USA, so here you can see and give a like their FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, enjoy this excellent interview of this more excellent band.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
After hour animals is actually a norma jean song (if you haven't figured it out already). of off wrongdoers. we all grew up listening to their music and when brandon, nik, and i (ben) first met we had a full moon bonfire at our house. to make a long story short there was a fire walk, we howled at the moon, and we felt like the name "after hour animals" sort of contained that same wild energy from that night. we wanted that into carry into our music. it also pays homage to an amazing band that has been a big influence on our musical tastes.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
That's a good question, we don't really adhere to one certain criteria or formula genre-wise, intentionally. but on first listen there's an obvious hardcore influence, but we also throw in some unorthodox funk (for lack of a better term) into the mix. in short, we're still a very young band but we all have so many differing areas of inspiration. we attempt to explore all of them. and we just wanna play what feels good. music we'd love to listen to and see live.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Not really, i mean, we knew of each other from playing in different bands around wisconsin.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Favorite band...thats tough. right now we're listening to ben-the mars volta and deathgrips, chase- frameworks and Xerxes, brandon- underoath, armon- emery, craig- everytimeidie, nik - rage against the machine, ben howard, and dance gavin dance...however he'd like to add more. favorites are hard.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I try to speak for all of us with this, forgive me if it seems vague. we've all been moved by music at one point in our life, moved so much that we decided its what we want to do for a living. so what inspires us is the chance to write a song that will make people feel something. and make ourselves feel something. we want to make music that our friends connect to, and really are moved by. theres so much music that comes out, you know, you want write something worthy of listening to...so its for the endeavor of making something worthwhile. its hard to explain but you know you're writing something good when everyone is in the practice space is just feeling it, the hair stands up on the back of your neck or whatever, everyones grinning from ear to ear, we wanna share that joy, yknow?
Obviously our favorite musicians inspire us, books we've read, moves we've seen these all give us ideas... but mainly just life in general, happiness, sadness, anger, or however we're feeling, writing music/lyrics is the best way to let everything out
6. Where was your last gig?
Yeah, we actually have our first show june 15th in cudahy wi at the metal grill for hometown throwdown!
7. Where would you like to act?
We'd all enjoy playing just about anywhere, but in a perfect world we'd all love to tour in other parts of the world. Japan, Australia, Europe the UK. Personally, I'd love to tour Japan, Nik and I have always wanted to check out Tokyo.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
To keep it simple, we'd love to tour with just about anyone at this point.
9. Whom not?
I think we're all pretty open minded, but we prefer not to be featured with bands that aren't wholeheartedly grateful to be doing what they're doing. arrogance, stuff like that. if the westboro baptist church had a touring choir, i think we'd raincheck on that one too.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Yes definitely, i think everyone does at some degree. if you come out there in front of a huge crowd of people and you're not feeling anything at all you're missing out. best thing to beat stage fright is just be prepared. practice a lot and be confident in your playing, and your band. just remember anxiety and excitement are one in the same thing, its just energy. use it. just take a deep breath, and do what you do.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Too many to count. everything from jimi hendrix to underoath. we look up to just about anyone that makes music with their whole heart. more specifically. you know, we don't want to get stuck in lateral motion, just bouncing back and forth. doing the same things over and over again. bands that push the boundaries and contribute to forward motion are the most inspiring.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
All of our friends/fans are great. they know this is our life and they've been so supportive. they've helped us with equipment, practice space, shows, artwork, production, promotion, good times. most of all they're honest critics that know a thing or two about good music and we love them for it.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I don't know if you can really say we have any hardcore 'fans' at this point, there mostly just our friends and family...but weirdness...umm couple weeks ago a group of us and our friends went through out milwaukee collecting trash couches. we looked like something out of west side story, scouring the streets of our neighborhood shouting "we're taking back the streets!"... we got like 7 or 8 of them and created a circle in the front yard of the house we practice at, on this night we founded what is now and forever will be known as Trash Nation. we created a flag which we hung from our balcony, designated a trash president, and wrote a trash anthem. For one night trash nation conquered all.
14. What do you think of our site?
One thing i love about the site is the diversity of music you bring to the table. everything across the spectrum in terms of sound, location, experience. i love that you'll work with a band like us just starting out as well as the season vets. you're doing a great service, man. keep up the good work.
15. Something to add?
