Below Red Skies - The Constant (2014) (Review)
Introduction
Below Red Skies is a metalcore band, from Sweden, formed in 2011. "The band consists of five young men with a passion for metal music and all that goes along with it", and it's what I love the most. Not men, eh, passion !
They deserve a listen, they're here since 3 years but have less than 2k likes on FB, go support them, really.
Review
Vocals
So, it's just an EP, so I won't be very long, but with only 4 songs, they successfully surprised me, in a good way. Yeah, it have mostly screams, I didn't expected some cleans, but "Levels" amazed me. It's a good thing, 'cause as a listener, I need to be surprised, and they gave me a good impression, when I listened to "The Constant", I thought, thanks to the instrumental, that they would use cleans, but they didn't. Taking choices is great, in this generic world.
Screams ? Not really impressive, I have to say, 'cause there's not a lot of variations. But they're good ! Some parts are really great, like 1:45 of "The Constant", you need to figure it out by yourselves. They're deep and there's some cool lines, like "I'm closed to loosing my mind".
And cleans are pretty good, this is just "Levels"' chorus, but they could improve them a little and use them a little more (For a bridge for example). But it's just my point of view, a full scream album is great too.
Instrumental
Really, I think it's the main point of this EP. I love how the instrumental isn't a constant breakdown, I think the best to demonstrate this is "Suddenly, The Sky Turned Red".
"The Constant"'s intro is really awesome, and that helps to get into this EP. And then, they go with 0:38, a riff "in the style of Architects" that's really sweet to hear.
It's not boring a second, and there's no the feeling of hearing the same song over and over again, and that's really hard to accomplish that nowadays.
