The Architect - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Metalcore/Hardcore band The Architect from USA, so here you can see and give a like their FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, enjoy this excellent interview of this more excellent.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Brooks: I had been playing around with a few different names but it's difficult to find something that doesn't come across as cheesy, cliche, or overly metal. Names that begin with prepositions (From, Above, Below, Beneath, etc) have appealed to me less and less over the years. I wanted something that seemed clear, strong, and could be interpreted a number of different ways. "THE ARCHITECT" seemed like a strong choice and wasn't taken by any other band. From a spiritual perspective we believe that God is The Architect of all creation.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Joseph: After spending a lot of time playing on worship teams at churches and dabbling in other genres, I started to like the metalcore genre because it allowed me to be myself as well as allow me to express myself in a style of music that truly has no musical, lyrical, or volume boundaries. We, as a band, also love the aspect of being able to perform our music, not just play it. There is so much energy on stage and in the crowd when you get to play music with such volume and speed, that’s why we love to play shows! 3
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Jimmy: Brooks and I were in a band called The Light Structure prior to The Architect, and Louie and I were good friends in high school. Louie: I kind of knew Brooks before hand from meeting him at a few shows, but later we found out we were at a lot of the same local shows when we were in high school so we pretty much knew each other. Jimmy and I have been close since high school, and Joseph and I were friends from church.
Brooks: Yes, We were all fairly good friends. I wanted to be in a band with guys I knew I could handle being in a van with for 14 hours at a time without killing each other. I am still blown away by how respectfully we treat each other, far more than most of the other bands we've played with. I love these guys, all of them.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Jimmy: Mine is a tie between Still Remains, August Burns Red, and Periphery...and Paramore
Louie: I have a list for this one...My top favorite bands are Parkway Drive, August Burns Red, The Chariot and....Paramore as well.
Joseph: Not an easy question, but I would have to go with August Burns Red.
Brooks: This is tough but as of the date of this interview, Phinehas, The Wedding, The Overseer, and Dave Matthews Band.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Jimmy: Musically, what inspires me to write is often times other bands, which will range from Emery to Thursday to Periphery, but other times its music composers such as John Williams (of Star Wars fame) and Kevin Kiner in regards to their composing methods. Brooks: It may sound cliche but I'll use nearly anything from The Bible, Prayers and private time with my thoughts, to movies, conversations with close friends and many others.
Joseph: A lot of my drumming inspiration comes from other bands that I look up to, but any inspiration directly tied to lyrics comes from my experiences with my walk with Jesus. The times that I have seen him and the times I haven’t. The things I have found joy in and the things that I have struggled with.
6. Where was your last gig?
Brooks: We finished a small California run with some friends from a strong hometown band called "BEARS AMONG MEN." Fresno, Visalia, and Las Vegas were our last few shows.
7. Where would you like to act?
Louie: It would be a dream come true to play Warped Tour, but going around the U.S. would be amazing and eventually branching out from there!
Brooks: Chain Reaction in Anaheim is on our bucket list as well as the Majestic Ventura Theatre. Theres an incredible venue called "The Grenada Theatre" in Kansas City I would also love to play.
Jimmy: Any Warped tour stage would be amazing to play on, House of Blues in Anaheim, and locally there is a place called SLO Brew which would be a big deal for us to play!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Jimmy: August Burns Red definitely, Still Remains if they ever get out here to play a festival, Periphery because it would be fun, Colossus because it would be fun, new Solid State signing Forevermore because their music is nuts, and War Of Ages because watching their set is just as good every time.
Brooks: Phinehas, August Burns Red, My Heart To Fear, Wolves At The Gate perhaps.
9. Whom not?
Louie: I'm not picky. If a band wants to jam then lets play a show and have some fun! Joseph: We love bands of all backgrounds in all genres of music. I feel that the more opportunities we explore with more bands, the more we will be able to meet new people and experience more places.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Joseph: None of us have really suffered from crippling stage fright, but there is always some form of pre-show jitters that we get right before we get up on stage. Once I start playing, I forget all about it and just have fun.
Louie: Like Joseph said we all get a certain amount of stage fright before a show, but what works for me is saying a prayer, taking some deep breaths and just making sure I have fun.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Jimmy: Bands that influenced me when I first discovered music like this were As I Lay Dying, Still Remains, Emery, Underoath, etc. All of these bands' live shows have been super inspirational as far as energy and tight-ness, and I have fond memories at each of these bands' shows. Nowadays, the list hasnt really changed, but more bands have come both from the past and present that influence me as well, such as Periphery (mention them alot), Forevermore, War Of Ages, and Colossus.
Brooks: Colossus vocalist Alex, and Guitarist Darren King from The Overseer helped to motivate, inspire me, and give me hope. Thank you for investing in me if you guys ever read this. Louie: My biggest inspiration as far as technicality would be August Burns Red. As far as going absolutely nuts on stage it would have to be The Chariot.
Joseph: All of the above to some extent as well as Matter, For Today, See the Light, and Phinehas.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Brooks: Oh gosh, a few things, I guess the strangest was a show where a girl wanted me to sign her breast in our hometown. Quite funny. I kept thinking about the scene from "Happy Gilmore" where Adam Sandler signs the old woman's breasts.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Joseph: It is a little cliché to say this nowadays, but any glory or praise that we have received in any of our shows, music, or promotion should be given to the fans. We don’t take their support or encouragement lightly. Without them, we would still be a garage band. We love them with all our hearts for helping make our dreams come true.
Brooks: We love people the way that Christ loves us. Regardless of who you are, what age you are, where you're from, what you believe, and what you've gone through. That is a promise as long as I'm a part of this band.
14. What do you think of our site?
Joseph: It appears to be very professional and very well put together. It is a great place to come and check out bands from all over the world. We are grateful for its willingness to promote us and support us.
Brooks: We are always so appreciative and love supporting sites that share fresh new music and promote bands of all genres. It is a ton of work for nearly no payout. We will always feel unworthy of this attention.
15. Something to add?
THE ARCHITECT will always strive to be a professional, hard working band with an old school DIY formula. We love people and continue to write and perform the best music we possibly can. Thank you for all your love and support. The Architect would like to thank our Savior, family, friends, and fans that have become friends and family to us.
