Through Lucid Eyes - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Progressive Metalcore/Djent band Through Lucid Eyes from Canada, so here you can see and give a like their FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, enjoy this excellent interview of this more excellent.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
I honestly can't remember where we got the name. When we were in the process of writing "Tempest", our first album, it was only between myself, Matt (our drummer) and Ryan (Lead Guitar). The album was kind of generic, a lot about relationships, anger and stuff like that. So I guess we came with that name because the name is basically saying that our songs are describing how we see the world/life through clear eyes lately we've adapted the name to go with the whole 3rd eye concept, seeing things at a higher level of consciousness.
Since then we've adapted the name and never really thought about changing it.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Simply enough, all of the original members loved this genre. So using our inspiration we wrote music similar to what we listened to. We're slowly trying to creep out of the generic metalcore sound, and leaning more towards a Northlane, ERRA type thing. We're not exactly there yet, but slowly getting there.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Funny enough, Ryan and Myself went to elementary school together. Parted ways in high -school, then when I started my old band "Borders" as the vocalist, Ryan got in contact with me and we decided to start a little side project. That eventually turned into a full time project when I left Borders.
The other members that we brought to the band (Cameron-Bass, Zach-Guitar) we invited. Cam was the lead guitar in my old band, and zach was a talent we found through facebook and friends.
4. Each band member favourite band?
I, personally, have a lot of bands that I LOVE. I listen to a ton of Monuments, Tesseract, Chelsea Grin, Volumes, Northlane. As for the other guys, we all listen to pretty similar stuff.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I get inspired by just about anything. This recent EP we've worked on for the past year is inspired by "Time". How everything began and ended. How time governs everything we do in life.
My songwriting (lyrics) depends on how I’m feeling that day or what theme I’m going for.
As for Ryan, with his instrumental writing, I really couldn't tell you what inspires him. Songs just flow from him so easily. Without his songs and the genius behind them, we'd be nowhere.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig we played was with Sleep When You're Dead as the headliner. We played here in Ottawa at Club Saw. It was an alright show. Our next few gigs are coming up soon. We have one with Barrier, and our EP release show in Cornwall, ON (our home town).
7. Where would you like to act?
All over the world. Truthfully, if we had the money and the support, i'd tour and play anywhere people wanted us to.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
That's a pretty good question. I've had other vocalists on my songs in the past, and it's a ton of fun. Guys like JT Cavey, Jesse Cash, Carlo Knopfel and Ryan Strain. If I could choose more to feature with, it would be my idol vocalists like Spencer Sotelo, Alex Koehler, Adrian from Northlane and many more.
9. Whom not?
I don't really know how to answer this... I guess there's no one i wouldn't collaborate with. If someone wanted my vocals on a track, I’d do it.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Yes, absolutely. I've played quite a few shows and I still get really nervous and I probably always will. The key thing that gets me by is knowing that when that first song starts, i'm gonna get used to the crowd. Trust me, be yourself on stage. Get wild, throw yourself around and enjoy your music on stage. People will react better to a vocalist that looks like they're having a blast, compared to a vocalist just standing there doing his lines.
For the beginners with stage fright, just do it. Grow some balls and face the fear. It'll be a little hard at first, but in your second song, you'll be killing it!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Lyrically, I’m inspired by guys who write lyrics that are different then normal. I like using complicated, elaborated sentences to express the theme of the song. Because then people have to pay attention and work to understand the song. There's a difference between hearing the song and UNDERSTANDING it.
People like Chris Baretto, Spencer Sotelo are great for my inspiration.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I don't think a fan ever really asked me anything funny or weird. My band isn't really at the level where fans are constantly reaching out to you all the time. Maybe eventually i'll have a better answer to this question.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Through Lucid Eyes fans are the best fans there is! Without them, we wouldn't still be writing music or playing shows. Just like every band, their fans are the fuel for their passion.
14. What do you think of our site?
I like what you're doing. It helps bands like mine reach out to more people. Plus its great to have a stranger ask for an interview, where they show interest in what you're doing.
15. Something to add?
Nothing really to add, just wanna thank you and the viewers of this interview for showing interest in my band's music. We have a 7 song Self-Titled EP releasing on July 22nd and it would mean the world to us if you guys could check it out, buy it if you like what you hear. Every penny we get helps us make more music. Share this interview with your friends, help us reach more people and we'll be ever grateful!
