Kaizan - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Djent/Progressive Metalcore band Kaizan from Mexico, so here you can see and give a like their FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, enjoy this excellent interview of this more excellent.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We planned it. Alan, Yosh and Prouzak had a previous band called FONGUZ but they splitted. As a result, they began to write new music all focused on growing, being better. Yosh, who has japan roots, suggested a concept: KAIZEN, which means "better change, being better". They added the letter "a" to have a unique name and that's how KAIZAN was born.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Because we all discovered this "genre" some years ago, before it was too popular, and it blew our minds, cause we felt we have something new happening in music but also this filled a lot of our personal tastes, experiences, ideas and showed us a completely new world. We think this genre doesn't limit you in any way, it forces you to be a better writer, player, planner... is a very challenged. We have been listening, "devouring" since 2009.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, but Prouzak and Yoshi have several years of friendship, then he met Alan, which lead to Luis and Rob (our actual drummer and bass player)
4. Each band member favourite band?
This is tough! hehe, we have a lot and so different between them, but....
YOSH: Korn
ALAN: Slipknot
PROUZAK: Karnivool
ROB: Pantera
LUIS: Tool
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
First: express ourselves through music but all focused on Being better persons. We are kinda tired of just write about love or being sad... we write about it but we like to think we do it with a twist. For example, ODAN, a song of our first LP, was made for you to think is a love story, but the reality is from a person talking to a bottle of alcohol.
6. Where was your last gig?
Was in Morelia, Michoacán (we are from Mexico City but we are working on close more gigs inside our country)
7. Where would you like to act?
More festivals inside our country, but also in USA and Europe. Warped tour, download festival, lollapalooza, wacken.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
From Korn to Tesseract, Karnivool, Monuments, Meshuggah, Periphery, Animals as Leaders, Volumes, Circles,
9. Whom not?
We are open for anything.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
We all!! hehe. Breathing is the best thing you can do. Before we hit the stage, we make some stretches, have a "group hug", we say some words to each other to give us courage and begin to breathe slow after that. The legs are the first part of your body to feel the adrenaline, so when you begin to feel them so rigid, move them! You are there to have fun, not to become a statue and nobody plays perfect!! Forget everyone will judge you, let the music flow and be part of it (back in the 90's, Sepultura had a lot of mistake while playing, but the energy and the honestly they put in every show, was
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We have a lot, from Metallica to Periphery, from Sepultura to Meshuggah, from Sevendust to Karnivool
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
To know in which hotel we would stay because they wanted to make an orgy with us, so they can bring more friends (all females... We believe hehe)
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are awesome! They demand the best of us in everything we do, specially in one thing: honestly.
14. What do you think of our site?
We believe that you are doing one of the best things anyone can do: to do something for what you believe and support it. In this case Music. Everybody thinks that just for being a band, upload your EP, or album and have a facebook page is enough... but no. Of course your audience will be your friends and friends of your friends and that is a beginning, but not the goal if you want to take your music to another level. If you dont have the support of blogs, pages or bands beyond your country, you will be always a "local" band, and you guys are doing a great job putting together bands, reviews, videos, interviews... in other words, you are giving exposure, critics and support for the bands you believe deserve your time, and we appreciate so much you had reached us... let's find a way to do something together in the future!! Sincerely KAIZA
