Killing The Messenger - Interview

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?  

We actually had a hard time coming up with our name. One day we were all watching 300 on TV and our drummer Willie yelled out "What about Killing The Messenger?" and it just stuck with us.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?  

We all grew up in either punk, rock, or metal loving families. Of course the music we listen to now is a little different to what had been played in our childhoods, we just all love heavy music too much not to play it!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?  

Three of us (Myself [Ahren], Kris and Willie) all went to high school together and we picked up Robert and Jon along the way.

4. Each band member favourite band?  

Ahren - From First to Last

Kris - Avenged Sevenfold

Jon - Metallica Willie - Veil of Maya

Robert - The Black Dahlia Murder

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We draw our inspiration lyrically from everyday experiences and lessons learned. A lot of our music instrumentally draws from old school metalcore bands such as As I Lay Dying or Killswitch Engage as references, of course we always try to put our own spin on our music the best we can.

6. Where was your last gig?  

Our last show was at SOMA San Diego with Wovenwar (Formerly As I Lay Dying), it was a great night and was completely packed!

7. Where would you like to act?  

Honestly anywhere we're able to play. We aren't picky as far as our shows go, we just want to play in front of new crowds that has never heard of us before.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?  

Architects, Born of Osiris, Wovenwar, or August Burns Red.

9. Whom not?  

There are no bands that come to mind that we wouldn't want to tour with.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?  

I think that most of us suffer from being too excited before getting on stage more than anything. Of course you get your butterflies before getting on stage but once you actually step on it's like entering a completely different world. The best advice I could give is force yourself to get on stage and when you get to that point you'll be completely fine from that moment on.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?  

We all draw inspiration from different musicians and bands alike, but collectively I think our band draws the most inspiration from August Burns Red, Parkway Drive and other bands like those names.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?  

We've actually been asked online to sign a paper towel and mail it to a fan in another state before. That was pretty weird, but honestly we were more surprised that anyone would want our signature at all!

13. What do you think of your fans?  

Our fans are so great. We wouldn't be anywhere without the support and love of our fans and we try out best to treat them all like friends and reply whenever we have the chance.

It's a great site! I can tell by the material you post that you're trying to help promote bands and get them to the next level. Thank you for the time you take to get bands noticed!
