Ocean Lies Ahead - Interview

Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Metalcore/Post-Hardcore band Ocean Lies Ahead from USA, so here you can see and give a like their FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name Ocean Lies Ahead really just came out that way. Our drummer, Troy, one day had said “What about Ocean Lies Ahead?” and it stuck.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The reason we chose this genre has to do with the fact that in our local scene here in El Paso, Texas, there aren’t many bands of this genre. We wanted to stand out from the rest and it also gives us the freedom to bring all the styles of our influences into our music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The majority of the band knew each other from being in a previous band. Our bassist joined in 2011. We ended up parting ways with our original 2nd guitarist, Charles. Levi came to us looking to be in the band and joined in 2012. The following year we parted with our vocalist and recently we just recruited our new vocalist Josh who you can hear on our new single.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Ray: Enter Shikari and Deftones

Chris: Miss May I and The Devil Wears Prada

Levi: As I Lay Dying, In Flames, and Blindside

Josh: After The Burial, The Ghost Inside, and Circles

Troy: August Burns Red

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The main thing that inspires us to write is just the love of writing new music.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was actually a small local show we put together with a few locals at a church.

7. Where would you like to act?

If we had the choice of anywhere we would like to play at Wacken, Download, Rock Am Ring, Rock Im Park, Sonisphere or any other European metal festival.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

At the moment there aren’t any artists we are looking to collaborate with.

9. Whom not?

If we were to work with anyone we would not work with someone who doesn’t fit with our music.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

All of us at one point or another have had stage fright. More so when we played a Vans Warped Tour date. Our advice for new bands would be just to turn that fright into excitement and energy on stage. If you do it could easily be the most fun gig of your life.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The bands inspirations are very diverse. They vary from bands like Deftones and Parkway Drive to bands such as Thy Art Is Murder.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We’ve actually never had anything too ridiculous asked from us. The weirdest thing we’ve been asked was from an out of state fan who asked to mail them a guitar pick. Not exactly weird but we’re still getting used to the whole being asked to take pictures, sign merch, and overall having fans.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Everyone who supports us in any way whether it be listening to our music, coming to our shows, or sharing with their friends are amazing. Without any of you guys we would not be doing what we love. We appreciate everyone single one of you guys for being a part of the Ocean Lies Ahead family!

14. What do you think of our site?

Anyone who supports unsigned and signed music should check out the site. It’s amazing that there are people such as BTC who support unsigned bands this way. It is also a great way to discover new bands and for bands to get their name to a broader audience.
