Oscillate - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Djent solo project Oscillate from New Zealand, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
It took ages to even think what I wanted to call the project, let alone what music I wanted to write for it. Although I feel it's pretty obvious to most people, it was one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands: The Contortionist and their song Oscillator. I love the whole atmosphere and epicness of the song, I felt it matched up with what I wanted to write so I adapted "Oscillate" from the title. They also introduced me to some of the best quiet, slow, ambient guitar sections that I love writing now myself.
2.Why did you start this solo project?
I had a flatmate with a shitty guitar and a shitty amp (which I still practice on) that was just sitting there, so I picked it up and started writing some tunes. Eventually I had figured out Fruity Loops enough to make demos and write OK sounding drums and I had purchased a better guitar and an interface so I decided "why not try this out, it'll be something fun to keep myself busy." But, I think it's safe to say it isn't so casual to me now haha!
3.Why did you want to play this genre?
It's undebiably my favorite type of music. The whole djent/progressive metal thing is ever expanding and new things are happening all the time to do with "djent" and "thall," so I thought it'd be interesting and fun to have a go at it myself. Plus, from what I've seen, the fans of this type of music have a real decent sense of humor with a lot of patience for different things and ideas!
4. Your favourite band?
The first band that pops into my head is The Contortionist, they never do the same thing twice and Apparition/Exoplanet are the most insane releases. But, really at the moment I've been going for a lot of Enter Shikari, The Acacia Strain and Pathogenic's latest cover EP, that shit is nuts! The cover of (sic) is gold.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Mainly it's the music that I listen to, Paige, my friends, long walks, long drives and maybe some illicit substances too (he he).
6. Where would you like to act?
At the moment it's just me playing the songs in my room, but I'd love to be able to play somewhere, where no one would understand what was happening. I'm a teacher's aide at the moment so playing at a college would be pretty rad. Pretty sure no one there has any clue what progressive metal is.
7. Whom would you like to feature with?
I've always been a big fan of It Djents, their page is so good for finding those obscure bands and the community based around the page is really welcoming to a new band being posted or featured. Being their featured band for a week would be a small milestone for me!
8.Whom not?
I really don't have any page in mind at all, any good attention is greatly appreciated.
9. What bands have inspired you the most?
There are too many to name but the ones that pop into my head are Cloudkicker, Fellsilent, The Contortionist, Tesseract, Veil Of Maya, Periphery, Deftones, and DSME.
10. What do you think of our site?
I love that you guys promote any underground band, none of this selective stuff! It's effecient for getting your name out there and I am always down on the bandcamp links, always keen to get music from the band itself from their bandcamp.
Thank you for interview guys!
