Casey - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Melodic Hardcore band Casey from UK, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Casey is the name of an incredibly underrated album that I love by an American post-hardcore band called The Rise Of Science, so that’s why I suggested it, but we actually came up with three potential names and ended up drawing the final one from a hat.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We didn’t start writing music together with the intention of creating a particular style, we just wanted to make music and progressed with whatever felt natural; Casey is the result of that.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yeah, we knew each other through previous and existing projects, we’ve all been in bands before now and even outside of that we’ve all been to the same kinds of shows. Liam was one of the members of my first ever band.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Tom – Circa Survive or at the moment The American Scene
Toby – Rush or Angels & Airwaves
Scott – Norma Jean or Converge
Max – Pianos Become the Teeth
Liam – Prawn or Basement
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Musically I don’t think anything in particular inspires us as such, the ability and opportunity to create music is incredible enough to justify its own creation. In terms of lyrical content, I guess I write from quite a dark place, I try to romanticize it as much as possible though; makes for prettier lyrics.
6. Where was your last gig?
As Casey we’ve yet to play a show, but under our previous name we played a couple last summer to test the water and see how people would react to it.
7. Where would you like to act?
I’ve always loved touring mainland Europe, so I’d be more than happy to head back out to play more shows there. Worldwide though it’s always been a dream to play in Australia, something like Soundwave festival would be incredible. 8. Whom would you like to feature with? - There are so many bands we’d love to share the stage with, personally if I could play with Pianos Become The Teeth, La Dispute, or Touche Amore that would be a huge accomplishment.
9. Whom not?
We’re pretty open to the whole mixed bill thing, I don’t think there are any bands that we’d be avidly against playing with in terms of genre. Close mindedness is a trait we tend to disassociate ourselves with, so bands that promote a negative message.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I used to get super nervous before shows, always worried that people wouldn’t enjoy the music I was making. Then it kind of struck me that everyone’s entitled to their opinion, and you’re not going to please everyone all the time, so that calmed me down a lot. I still get nervous, but it’s more so at the thought of me tripping over a mic cable or forgetting the words.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
In my life? Circa Survive and Bayside have always been huge bands for me, and Saosin too when Anthony was with them. More recently I just listen to things I enjoy or that invoke some sort of feeling in me. The Contortionist, The American Scene, Young and in the Way, and The American Scene put out some of my favourite records in 2014, and I take something different from each of them.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I don’t think I’ve ever had any weird requests really, I’ve signed a bunch of stuff which I always thought was crazy, I never thought I’d be in a position where people would willingly let me write my name on their things.
13. What do you think of your fans?
The fact that we have fans at all is incredible, there’s an almost limitless supply of music available these days so the idea that people chose to take time out of their days to listen to ours is mind blowing.
14. What do you think of our site?
I couldn’t find where you’d encoded your music player, but thankfully I’m a metalcore fan so it wasn’t that bad haha. Honestly though any publication, online or in print, that promotes art to new audiences is amazing. Without publications like yours we’d never hope to reach the audience we do.
15. Something to add?
A huge thank you to everyone who made Hell possible, and an equally huge thank you to anyone who’s taken the time to check it out and give us feedback on it. We really appreciate the support.
These guys are so fucking amazing *_*
