Zephyr - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Progressive Metal band Zephyr from UK, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Cameron: Truthfully, ‘Zephyr’ is a level from the second ‘Spyro The Dragon’ game. We were looking for something unique and catchy, but also reflective of the ethereal and celestial qualities of the music – ‘Zephyr’ seemed to cover it pretty well. We also looked it up and it turns out it’s an Ancient Greek and Roman god of the wind, which doesn’t sound too shabby either.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Gideon: I got into Metalcore around 13/14 and the double kick patterns always intrigued me. Drummers like Matt Greiner from August Burns Red inspired me to keep practicing and develop my technique!
Pete: More interesting and fun to play than any other “metal” genre.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Cameron: Yeah, Pete was the bassist for my last band. We’d also played a few gigs with Gideon’s last band, so that’s how us three were connected.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Cameron: I think I’d have to go for Volumes at the moment, but Sonic Syndicate and Sum 41 are some of my older favourites that I can’t seem to get tired of.
Pete: Glassjaw always, but listening more to Volumes and Architects than anything else for the past year or so.
Jacob: Architects have been my favourite band since I discovered them about 6 years ago; they have consistently brought out incredible albums, and each one is unique.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Cameron: Musically, I have a lot of influence from video games and the people that composed their music - Mutato Muzika, Stewart Copeland and David Bergeaud have all influenced my writing style in a way that I feel complements the genre well. Lyrically, anything I’m feeling passionate about at the time. I like to use metaphor a lot so people can draw their own meaning from whatever I’ve written too; people connect more with a song if they’re free to decide for themselves what it means.
6. Where was your last gig?
Gideon: We played a short set for my University course, and everyone seemed to love it! The sound technician ran up to us afterwards and gave me a sweaty hug saying it sounded amazing.
7. Where would you like to act?
Gideon: I would love to tour Australia, USA and the far East.
Pete: Big festivals, you just don’t get the same kind of atmosphere in regular venues.
Jacob: Any big festival such as Download or Sonisphere would be sweet!
Cameron: Everywhere.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Cameron: I think it’d be really great to feature with some of the mid-noughties bands I was into, Sonic Syndicate and The Unguided were some of the first bands that got me into the genre. That would be rad, I think.
Gideon: I would love to feature with Jesse Cash from ERRA. He has a really unique singing voice.
Jacob: Chino Moreno from Deftones would be rad to feature with! Realistically, Jesse from Erra would be sick too.
9. Whom not?
Cameron: Can’t say there’s anybody I wouldn’t be happy to share the stage with, I guess anybody that doesn’t treat their fans or colleagues in the music world respectfully?
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Cameron: For me, I find listening to my own music and getting pumped for a live performance works best – going for it full pelt is the only thing that’s ever worked for me. If you concentrate too much on what you’re doing, you’ll also concentrate on what you think isn’t going your way!
Gideon: Just remember to focus and not let the size of the crowd put you off. It’s music so enjoy it and be yourself on stage, and don’t be afraid to give it everything you have!
Pete: First time I was scared I was gonna piss myself more than stage fright, tip is to not drink too much before and don't jump too much if your bladder needs emptying.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Gideon: August Burns Red, Volumes, ERRA, Norther, Born Of Osiris.
12. What do you think of your fans?
Jacob: Anyone who takes an interest in us and our music is awesome, and we are very grateful for any support!
13. What do you think of our site?
Jacob: I think this site is awesome! I’ve read a fair few interviews on this site and I think it’s sweet that you feature any band regardless of size.
