1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Dave our Vocalist/Guitarist came up with the name back in 2012. We had a few names we were using as 'working titles' and few we used for practice shows, but when it came down to recording our EP we wanted to make sure our name suited us and eventually we went with 'DEFERENCE'. The meaning of the word is kind of the 'feel' of the band. Every member feel strongly about respect for each other, the people we play with and the crowd we play to.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We're all fans of this music, it's naturally in our bones to write in this genre. However, we are always pushing our boundaries and constantly introducing new layers that keeps us moving forward.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We've all been friends for years. There were a few member changes at the beginning and the changes needed to happen for us to get where we are now. We've never been so close.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Rob: Architects
Matt D: Parkway Drive
Dave: TDWP
Matt T: Devil Sold His Soul
Mike: CKY
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Not having to work 9-5, not conforming to societies views of how to live your life and because it's awesome. We love it.
6. Where was your last gig?
The last show we played was last week with our friends 'Griever' - an awesome metalcore outfit from the next town along, Bournemouth. It was their hometown show of their current tour. The venue sold out, It was a great/sweaty night.
7. Where would you like to act?
The skies the limit. We enjoy what we do, let's see where it takes us.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Anyone who wants us or is happy to play with us.
9. Whom not?
We only turn down shows if we can't get there in time. We're very busy people, but when it comes to shows, we will do our best to play as many that is offered.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Not really, although Rob suffers from anxiety. He's had his moments, but he always pulls through. For the rest of us, I guess it's like.. 'If rob can do it, so can we' - The general vibe is 'we are here to have a good time.. let's go for it!'. I guess that's what our advice would be for beginners, just enjoy yourself. The rewards are limitless.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
I guess it would be our favourites, those guys nail it. We want to nail it too.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Well, our bassist Matt was touring mainland Europe with an old band when a 'Creepy dude' in Germany asked if he wanted to "share his bed tonight" - Matt is quite shy, this was very weird for him. Rob on the other hand... haha!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Any fans that we have, we are incredibly grateful for. We are glad that someone enjoys listening to our music as much as we enjoy making it.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's bloody awesome. Thank you for letting us be a part of it.
15. Something to add?
Did we just say you were bloody awesome? yeah, well we just said it again ;)
