Fit For The Bleeding - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Hardcore band Fit For The Bleeding from Belgium, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Looking for a band name is never an easy thing. We first settled on some ground rules, like: no band names that include the words “hate, blood, fist, death, crew,...” ‘cause we didn’t want to give people the impression we were particularly tough. Or something like that. But upon listening to Bloodsimple’s Death from Above, our drummer got hooked on this one phrase, “the bastard is ripe and fit for the bleeding.” It kind of fit in with the spirit of one of our songs, and what we basically felt. We’re all guilty of some shit, right? So all good intentions flew right out the window, and in the end we had some “blood” in our band name after all, haha.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
In all honesty, we really didn’t have any choice. Hardcore is the music we grew up with, the music that defined us as youngsters, at war with the world and all the fucked up shit and fucked up people in it. We kind of lost sight of this as we got older, and even deviated from our path so far as to start playing metal! But the more time passed, the more dissatisfied we became with regards to our music, and the more our false sense of complacency fell apart. We just didn’t manage to say what we had to say anymore, until we decided to return to our roots. From that moment on, everything fell into place once again, and we haven’t looked back since.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Three of us already knew each other from way back. We grew up in the same area, and went to hardcore shows together. We tried to get a band together while in college, but for some reason it just wasn’t meant to be. Every rehearsal space we turned up in, kind of kicked us out after one session. We were too loud for the people trying to enjoy their beers downstairs, so they said. The fact that we sucked probably didn’t help either. As the years went by, we fell out of touch, until some years ago, when our drummer Mario wanted to practice some good ‘ol hardcore grooves when not doing his business in the metal band he was involved in (I Inside). He contacted Tom, the guitar player, for a jam session, and one thing lead to another... Soon everyone was back playing in the same band, and when that band died a quiet death, Fit For The Bleeding emerged from the ashes like a phenix finally taking on its true form. One thing we lost along the way, though, was our vocalist. And that, as they say, is a whole other story! It took us nearly three years to find a good match, but when Dennie walked into our rehearsal room, we knew we had found a kindred spirit, and songs flew together like gravity forms the stars.
4. Each band member favourite band?
That’s always a hard question. It’s like forcing a dad to choose between his children, isn’t it! As a dad, I’m going to take the cowardly way out and say something like: “I like all of them the same.”
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
In writing songs, we try to adhere to the simple cliché: write about what you know! Keep it real, so to speak. We obviously didn’t grow up in the ghetto, and never had to fight for our lives or anything like that, so why should we act all tough when we have nothing to back that up with? But we all grew up with our own problems relating to family (broken homes, domestic violence, drinking problems, running away from home) and generally not fitting in and hating the world as it was. So we write about those kind of things, to finally let it all out and give it a positive place to move on. We strongly believe that this is what hardcore music is all about: expressing yourself and sharing the hurt with like-minded people.
6. Where was your last gig?
That’s an easy one: nowhere! We have our first gig in the new line-up planned on 29 march at the Bar American in Middelburg, Netherlands. We’re really excited to bring our songs to a live audience for the first time. We haven’t played live for a couple of years now, at least not since the break-up of our metal project. We’ll see if we haven’t lost our edge.
7. Where would you like to act?
Anywhere they’ll have us is great!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Wow, I guess it’s every local band’s dream to share a stage with one of the big names in hardcore, but in the spirit of keeping it real, that’s not very likely to happen. At least not any time soon. So we’re happy to play with any band that feels the same way we do. It’s not really about who you are, but what you’re about.
9. Whom not?
Well, as a rule, we don’t want to veto any band, but if you twisted our arm, we’d have to say: any band that’s only about violence and tough-guy posing, and not about the music.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Stage fright, not so much. Stage anxiety, oh yeah... Everytime you start a show, the nerves kick in, but if everything is well, these nerves will dissipate with the first song. I still see ourselves as beginners, so any tips we’d have to share, would have to be seen as tips between equals. One tip is: watch your tempo. The nerves will most likely kick every song into overdrive, and that could lead to nasty side effects. Cramps in the fingers or legs, singers unable to keep up with their breathing, 16th notes turning into one indistinguishable moosh... We’ve done it all, believe me, and everyone of these occurrences is a learning moment, haha.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Well, there are a few we could identify, but many more have probably had a subliminal influence. We tend to favor more groove oriented stuff, though we’ve never turned down any brutal stuff either. Think Section 8, Vision of Disorder, Terror, Madball...
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Well, I don’t know about weird, and I don’t know if we have any fans, but once a member of the audience asked me if that was our blue Ford Focus blocking the parking lot exit. We can live with that.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We think anyone who likes our recent demo is a brilliant hardcore connaisseur, ha! But realistically speaking, we’re probably always going to be an acquired taste. Really, the first time anyone would declare him- or herself to be a fan, we’d be totally blown away. That’s the ultimate reason you bring your songs to the public for, isn’t it? To make that musical connection with a like-minded person.
14. What do you think of our site?
What a great way to promote hardcore music and bands! It’s not easy getting your name out on the internet today. So easy to get drowned in the shear volume of music out there. Sites like this can really help people to focus and zoom in on certain bands.
15. Something to add?
Thanks for shining your light on Fit For The Bleeding, and thanks to anyone who is willing to give our demo a listen and come out to see us live in the near future!
