In Darkening Daylight - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Melodic Deathcore band In Darkening Daylight from Canada, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for your band name?
The band name has gained more meaning to it as we have developed but originally it was just something that we thought sounded cool and it sort of symbolized a struggle for yourself, who you are. Essentially “In Darkening Daylight will you fight to stay alive or be swallowed by the growing darkness?”
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We all love the progressive nature of the genre. It’s something different, something ever-changing and something we can strive to push ourselves with.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we all went to the same high school. Paul is a young ‘un so he was the year below most of us. We all had the same love for this type of music and so we eventually came together. Paul was and still is actually in another band and so we sort of recruited him when we were looking for a second guitarist. Cole, Aiden and I (Matt) and ex-drummer Mitchell were the core of the band before we brought Paul in and replaced Mitchell with our secret new drummer (HYPE).
4. Each band member’s favourite band?
Matt: Changes all the time, Avenged Sevenfold will always have a place in my heart though.
Cole: Megadeth hands down. I'm in love with their gut-wrenching solos, fast-paced in your face beat of the music and the anger in it.
Paul: Protest The Hero
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
It’s mainly a collaboration of whatever comes into our heads. It could be a lyric idea or a riff or a drum pattern that starts it off and then we flesh it out from there.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was in Ottawa on January 3rd at Pressed Café in Ottawa with Cruelty in Colour and Archaic (local bands).
7. Where would you like to play?
Matt: Australia. Always wanted to go there and to go there and play even one show would be absolutely amazing.
Paul: I love playing so literally anywhere. Outdoor festivals are always great, I'd really love it if could get on something like Heavy MTL or another massive fest like that.
Aiden: I'd like to play the Whiskey A Go Go simply because that venue is legendary. Other then that anywhere in Europe.
Cole: I'd love to play Heavy MTL. I love going to that Festival every year so that'd be killer, otherwise any venue on the Sunset Strip in California.
8. Who would you like to play with?
Matt: The dudes in Obey the Brave and Chelsea Grin. Some of the Obey the Brave guys are from our hometown so they’re legendary to me and I’m a huge Grin fan so that’d be awesome.
Paul: I'll play with anyone who wants to play, regardless of if I like them or not. This scene is great in that bands from completely different genres can play together and bring out lots of different crowds, so networking like that can prove to be an awesome thing.
Aiden: I'd love to play with Northlane. Their crowds go ballistic and I just think that'd be such a killer show to be a part of.
Cole: I'd love to play with Megadeth (obviously), Slipknot because they're crowds are crazy, and Lamb Of God for the same reason. Killer bands.
9. Who would not like to play with?
Matt: Anyone who is in it to be “scene”, who is in it for money or is in it for praise. Can’t stand people like that, if your heart isn’t truly in it then get out you know?
Aiden: I wouldn't want to play with any band that doesn't appreciate their position. I mean if you have a show to play in the first place you're lucky, it's a privilege. You work hard, you get results, don't take advantage of that.
Cole: I hate bands that whine. If you're going to whine don't play, simple.
10. Have any of you suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners to overcome that?
Matt: I personally used to get crazy nervous before shows. It all comes down to experience, you need to play a couple shows to hit your stride and get comfortable. Just try not to overthink it too much and you’ll get through that awkward first stage of not knowing what to do and you’ll move onto bigger and better things.
Paul: I personally get nervous right before the show but after we get through the first song it's all good. I started playing shows at 14/15 so I've learned to deal with it.
Aiden: I used to get nervous before every single show and sometimes I still do. For me, I just need to go out and do it, I have to dive in headfirst.
Cole: Every goddamn show. It gets better with experience you've just got to do it.
11.What bands inspired you the most?
Matt: Again, the dudes from Obey the Brave man. Crazy talented dudes and definitely a group of guys I look up to.
Paul: Recently I've been really digging an artist named John Gomm (http://jongomm.bandcamp.com) He's a solo artist that does incredible things with a guitar and you can really tell how much he loves what he is doing. You can feel it in his music.
Aiden: Bands like A Day To Remember because of the way they play exactly what the want to without holding back for anyone. And they just look like they have so much fun man, it's awesome, it's exactly what I want to have with this band.
Cole: Anyone who works hard. Old 80's bands that just took it to the grind and went for it mostly. They're the people to look up to.
12.What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Matt: We haven't really had a fan ask us for anything strange before, we've had weird encounters on stage before but that would take up pages, crazy stuff happens when you're playing man.
13.What do you think of your fans?
Anyone who supports the band like we have been supported is amazing in our books. We think of them more like our friends than fans.
14.What do you think of our site?
Definitely a cool site. Great to see a support of metal on a professional level like this. Stellar work.
