Spirits - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Hardcore Straight Edge band Spirits from USA, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
After Test of Time was over, we started thinking about new band names and this was one I had kept in mind for a while. A few years ago, I wanted to start a band that could rip off the old "Shorty's Skateboards" shirts that had a "S" on each sleeve. I thought up this name and was into it. When we needed a new name, I brought this up and everyone in the band was into it.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
All of us have been listening to punk and hardcore since we were young, so it was kind of a natural desire to emulate things we have been listening to for years. We never really sat down and had a conversation about what we wanted to sound like, but this is what we have been drawn to writing.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We have all known each other for a while. Four of the five of us were part of Test of Time in some form.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Kevin Merriam - TOPS
Mike Assatley - AFI covering The Cure Charles
Chaussinand - CIV Robert
Cheeseman - Bad Religion (He really, really loves Bad Religion)
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I can only speak for my own writing, but I try and put together songs in a way that I would imagine them played live. I want to write songs that will be fun to play in front of people and songs I would want to see played to me.
6. Where was your last gig?
Court Tavern in New Brunswick, NJ with ManAlive, Extinction A.D., Nuclear Age, and Insurrection.
7. Where would you like to act?
We pretty much want to play anywhere we can. I don't know if we have any particular places, but we pretty much want to play anywhere that is not a typical place to play for a band like ours.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
If there is any way Sick of it All would want to headline the show, I would be pretty excited about that.
9. Whom not?
Rush Limbaugh and Dracula are not invited to the show.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I still get nervous sometimes when we play. I am not sure what really causes it, but once in a while, it just happens. It is really all about the first ten seconds. Just get out there and start and you'll be fine.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We are big fans of the early Epitaph Records bands and a lot of the earlier stuff that labels like Equal Vision Records was doing. Bands like Battery, Go It Alone, Millencoln, Nerve Agents, Shelter, etc.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I would say the weirdest, but most awesome thing, that anyone asked me about at a show was during my old band, No Harm Done. He asked me if we would be willing to trade for two of our shirts. I said sure, and he pulls out the entire series of Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD. I absolutely love Star Trek and was so excited that I gave him one of all of our shirts, a few records, and pretty much anything else we had. It was great.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Anyone listening to our band is a genius and probably has great manners and a good person to be in a romantic relationship with.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your website is the Robocop of websites. If that isn't the highest compliment a digital medium can get, I don't know what is.
15. Something to add?
We have a new LP titled "Discontent" coming out May 5th on State of Mind Recordings and touring Europe in May. Come hang out with us and we can talk about Dawson's Creek, the X-Files and Star Trek.
