Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Metalcore/Mathcore band The Hum from Spain, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

As kids, we all grew up watching shows like the X-Files or shows that were similar to the Twilight Zone, reading Lovecraft and conspiracy theories. As there is some mistery related to the phenomenon called “the hum”, a phenomenon that involves sound (like music), we decided to take it as the band name.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

When the band began taking shape circa 2010, the first covers we ever did were 36 Crazyfists’ songs, so in a way we kinda followed that path for a while until, without even realizing, we started to include Math elements into the mix. We love going berserk (in a no-demolishing way xD) on stage, so our mixture of genres allows us to go nuts or just two-step the way out of a song!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Fortunately for us, yes. The Hum has always been, above all things, a group of friends having a good time. Besides, our drummer James and our bassist Martin are brothers, so there’s that xD. The rest of us know each other for our former projects (some of them are still going on to this day, we try and keep ourselves busy)

4. Each band member favourite band?

Well, funny enough most of us doesn´t listen to metal exclusively (or doesn´t even listen metal at all at the moment), but here are some bands that have definately influenced the sound of The Hum: David Arroyo (Guitars and additional vocals): 36 Crazyfists

James Shannon (Drums): The Dillinger Escape Plan Christian Núñez “Pocho” (Lead Vocals): Hummano

William McShepard (Guitars): Tool

Martin Shannon (Bass): In Oceans

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

As we said earlier, when we write our music we always try to focus on the dark aspects of our world, but as we believe in duality, we have to compensate those darker moments with more melodic and easier stuff. That´s how we create a contrast.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played in our hometown (Málaga, Spain) opening for the mighty Vällenfyre (We guess you know who they are xD)

7. Where would you like to act?

We´ve been told that our style could fit well anywhere but in our country, so... pretty much anywhere else!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It would be great to do something with D.E.P. or Converge

9. Whom not?

Anyone who spends more money in their imagery than in their instruments xD

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Well, our singer has never been in a band before, so maybe he´s the only one who´s still getting affected, but his stage fright usually turns him into a killing machine on stage so, we´re ok with that!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

36 Crazyfists, The Bled, The Dillinger Escape Plan, August Burns Red, Inhale Exhale, Deftones, Devildriver,...

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Once, just before the show somebody dared David to stage-dive into the audience, here’s the result:

(Also, Ismael and Damian from Chaos Before Gea are featured in this video)

13. What do you think of your fans?

We´ve got some really die-hard fans that follow us pretty much anywhere, we feel so grateful that it can be put out in words... Anyway, THANK YOU

14. What do you think of our site?

We always say it´s important for the scene that people like you keep spreading the word around, mostly with genres as hard to take upfront as anything with “core” in it, we would also like to thank you for your great job, keep it up!

15. Something to add?

Around next Summer, 2015, we´ll be releasing our 2nd LP, so we invite you to follow us through Bandcamp and Facebook to stay updated. Also, if you liked our album, here’s our Youtube channel (TheHumSpain) where you can find videos of what we like to do the most: Play live.
