Our Hands In Ruin - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Post-Hardcore band Elegy from UK, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Well I was not in the band at the time of naming but it was a cross between two possible names there was 'Our Hands' and 'In Ruin' cause either Matt (Rhythm Guitar) or Lewis (Vocals) could not decide so they just put the two names together then 'Our Hands In Ruin' was made.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We all played Metalcore/Post Hardcore in previous Band's and it was a Genre we were all use to. So we took that approach in the band. There was something Chemical about when we first jammed all together.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I knew Nick (Drums) for a few years before me and him joined cause I was band mates with his younger brother for a while. Matt and Lewis knew each other for a very long time before the band formed. They were in band together. Lewis knew Kyle (Lead Guitar/Keyboards) cause they went to school together. I first met Lewis and Matt at a gig Lewis played. The band was Called 'Tessellate' I had Lewis on drums, Josh from Osmium Guillotine on Bass, Alex from Under possession on Vocals and Jim from Under possession on Guitar. I was riding with my previous Bands (Framing the Broken and The Sacrament). I spoke to them and they were all rad guys! Like 3 weeks later I get a phone call at 7am after working a night shift the previous night from Matt going 'Dude mine and Lewis's Band needs a new Bass player are you free?'. So we all kinda knew each other before the band formed.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Mine is either Incubus, Slipknot or Misfits (Can't Decide) Lewis is Asking Alexandra Kyle's is parkway Matt's is Bury tomorrow (I think) Nick I have no idea haha
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Well most of our songs are about past experiences and demons we once had to face as individuals. Some of them are stories like our 5th song 'Valkyrie'. The lyrics are close to our hearts thats for sure. Lewis is perhaps the greatest lyrical genius I know and that is not me being Biased. So I would say past experience's are our inspiration.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was CodJam. It was a great gig and we played along side Drop Dead Fred, Kaine, Osmium Guillotine, Violet Quartz and Oath of ember. It was a memorial gig and emotions ran strong. All in all it was an awesome set and loved playing it!
7. Where would you like to act?
Our current Goal is to play larger Essex venues like the Hermit in Brentwood or Colchester Art center. In the long term it would have to be Download festival, it has some awesome vibes going. Warped tour would be pretty rad also!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We would love to play with more Locally big essex Modern Metal bands for the time being. Would love to play with 'A new beginning' again. They put on a show and a half! In the long term we would love to play with bands like Issues, crown the empire, Motionless in white and trivium.
9. Whom not?
Drop Dead Fred again. Nothing against the band just the fact that we have opened for them like four times. They are probably getting sick of us haha.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I suffer from it all the time. I think we all do to and extent. If you say you have never suffered from it at least once you are lying. The rush is so great once you get on stage it does not matter. I have a thing called 'the faithful five minutes' it is when the band before is on their last song and you are say on your last fag break or getting your stuff together before setting up. Thats the killer. My tips to anyone suffering from it would be the following. Stay chilled Get pumped (Contradicts the previous but bare with me) Stay Hydrated Get people pumped Go to the toilet before Play like you will never again.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
So many bands have. For me its slipknot. They influenced my Bass playing in so many ways. Inspired me to do this straight up. They tell you it is ok to be different. Enter Shakari also cause they made it on their own with no label or management or anything now they are one the this biggest bands going. Asking Alexandra cause they had a dream and made it happen. We really look up to those bands. Hopefully one day we will inspire somebody in the same way.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Once before a gig some girl (Who shall not be named) who was super wasted went up to Kyle and said 'Are you hard?' That was a pretty funny night. Kyle responded with a strong 'FUCK OFF' That was his first gig with us. Awesome night.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Awesome people! They show their support and that means the world to us. Without them we are nothing. To the ones that go out of their way to listen to our music and see us live I just want to say thank you. We owe you everything. Like you have all given us amazing opportunities just from your support. The E.P is in the making now and can't wait to show everybody! You are all so rad!
14. What do you think of our site?
Awesome website, you talk to loads of awesome bands and we feel very privileged to be able to take part in this interview. The website is amazing and who ever runs it deserves a medal and a top hop voucher.
