Pharisee - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Melodic Metalcore studio project Pharisee from USA, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Jeremy: Marshall thought of it. So I'll let him explain.
Marshall: Well, I was sitting in church one day listening to my pastor preach a sermon about the Pharisees who were basically the high priests in Judaism. They were the one's who sentenced Jesus to death on the cross. The pastor was basically talking about the fact that the Pharisees were more concerned with religious law than with having a real relationship with God. They were focused on picking out the things Jesus was doing wrong according to their man made laws, as opposed to what he was doing right in the eyes of God. The name Pharisee just really resonated with me at the time with what I was going through spiritually. I felt like I was too focused on following all of the rules correctly when I should have been focusing on my relationship with God.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Jeremy: I've always had a love for heavy and melodic hardcore and wanted to express that through writing with Pharisee.
Marshall: Well, I like to say I didn't choose this genre, it chose me. I love music of all kinds. My playlists are quite eclectic. I enjoy singing, but have never been particularly good at it. I feel like I have a lot to say, and sometimes yelling it at the top of my lungs just feels better.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Jeremy: Marshall and I had known each other from performing together in separate bands as well as I had helped his old band track their final single before disbanding.
Marshall: What Jeremy said.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Jeremy: He Is Legend
Marshall: Right now.....beartooth and glasscloud. Who knows next week.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Jeremy: For me whatever I'm listening to at the time usually has a heavy influence on the direction I write.
Marshall: Anything and everything. Lyrically, whatever is on my mind at the time. For this particular EP, we wanted to do a concept album where all the songs are actually tied together. Each song is about a different person, whether I'm taking about myself or someone I have known throughout my life. I sat and reflected on people I felt like writing about, and that birthed the title "reflect"
6. Where was your last gig?
Jeremy: Due to the fact that we are just a 2 man band we have not played a show yet. As well as we live in two different states so we are focusing on Pharisee as a studio project. Marshall: ^^
7. Where would you like to act?
Jeremy: If we were able to start playing shows I would love to play anywhere we could. Chain Reaction in Anaheim would definitely be on my list since that's a venue I grew up at and have played before.
Marshall: To anyone who will listen.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Jeremy: I would love to play with bands like Gideon or For The Fallen Dreams. As well as many local bands from the Southern California area.
Marshall: Glass cloud, beartooth, kublai khan, Gideon, Northlane, Volumes,
9. Whom not?
Jeremy: I personally don't have any bands that I would not enjoy performing with.
Marshall: I agree with Jeremy. Even if I don't care for the band's music, I have no qualms playing with anyone.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright?Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Jeremy: When I first started playing I did suffer from stage fright pretty bad. But after a few shows it was easy to channel that nervousness and anxiety into energy while performing. Just remember to have fun and do what you love.
Marshall: My very first show as a vocalist, I was nervous as ever. I had performed in bands for years, but never as a vocalist. I was so nervous that I was shaking. I learned that being that nervous actually causes your throat to close and makes screaming harder. I had to learn to relax and act like I was just back home in the basement yelling my lungs out like no one was watching.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Jeremy: Gideon, Circa Survive, He Is legend, and For The Fallen Dreams.
Marshall: The Chariot, Gideon, Barrier, Glasscloud, Beartooth, and The Devil Wears Prada.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Jeremy: The weirdest thing for me was someone had asked me to sign my old bands Cd when I had only been in the band for about a week and was not on the cd.
Marshall: I had a couple fans ask me to sign their jeans and shoes before. That's about as weird as I've gotten.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Jeremy: Our fans are awesome! We are a fairly new band and we have already received an amazing amount of feedback from everyone who's taken the time to check us out and we greatly appreciated it.
Marshall: anyone who offers support is awesome in my book. Personally, I make music for me. I don't aim to be famous or gain followers. I just want a way to express myself and this band gives me a medium to do that. Anyone that likes the music, is just a bonus. So to anyone and everyone that has listened to a song, shared a link, or told a friend about our music, I thank you.
14. What do you think of our site?
Jeremy: I think it's great! I have a lot of friends bands that I have seen on your guys site. I love the fact that local bands that aren't as big have a way for people to hear about them through interviews on here and get exposure.
Marshall: I hadn't heard of it until you messaged us, so I checked it out and it is pretty awesome. Anyone who takes their personal time to promote bands with no agenda and asks for nothing in return (mainly money) has mad respect from me.
15. Something to add?
Jeremy: Check out our debut single "The Victim" ft. Neythan Castruita of Mayfair and be on the look out for our EP titled "Reflect" coming very soon. We are finishing up the EP and are very excited to release more music. Thank you to Breathing The Core for interviewing us and thank everyone who takes the time to read this.
Marshall: Support bands that you like. Do what makes you happy. Follow your path. Disregard the haters. Appreciate support. God Bless and thank you.
