This Is Shark Country - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Hardcore band This Is Shark Country from UK, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
You know that scene in Fear & Loathing when Johnny D is driving that big sweet caddy, and they've just popped some pills and they’re trippin' their tits off? Well, he starts seeing lots of bats flying about and he says 'This Is Bat Country' - we thought that was a cool saying, but Jamie had been insisting we called the band ‘Sharks With Frickin’ Lasers’, which is from an Austin Powers movie. So we figured we’d just combine the two.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We've always played in metal bands. Well – a few of us have played in indie bands or cover bands, and that bored the hell out of us, just playing 4 chords and playing in 4/4 all the time. Metal’s where it's at. It's way more fun.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yeah, 3 of us used to play in a band with an equally long and shit name called 'TEXAS IS THE JAZZ'. That was about 9 years ago. All of us have played in bands together at some point in the past, we all go way back.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Oli – Glassjaw
Ben – Periphery
Nick – Sikth
Jme – Blink 182
Chris - Tool
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I guess the bands we grew up listening to are what inspired each of us to start playing music. There wasn’t a lot to do in our hometown, but the alternative music scene there was awesome. We all spent most of our free time at gigs, and that’s where most of us first met. Ultimately though we write music to have fun, and I think that comes across at our shows.
6. Where was your last gig?
Newbury Corn Exchange. It’s a really cool venue in our hometown, and it’s where we used to go and watch touring bands that ended up influencing us. Jme used to get thrown out of every gig there – the same doorman still works there, he recognized Jme and asked to take a photo with him!
7. Where would you like to act?
It’d be pretty sweet to play somewhere really unusual, like at the top of a mountain or on a desert island.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
SLAYER!
9. Whom not?
Bands who aren’t Slayer.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
We’ve all been playing in bands for over a decade, so none of us really get stage fright any more. But Jme used to get horrendously drunk to overcome it. Or if you’re underage, get tanked up on Red Bull because underage drinking is bad right?
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We all have different influences so it’s a bit of a mix. Architects have definitely been a big inspiration to Ben (guitar); they were his first encounter with technical guitar work and different time signatures. Vocally, The Chariot and Glassjaw have been an inspiration to Oli.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We’ve been asked to play at a wedding, and we also got asked to play at the Dancing On Ice wrap party a couple of years ago. Technically that wasn’t by a fan though – one of our guitarists at the time was working on the show. They needed a band last minute for the wrap party and asked if we could play. When they heard our music they quickly changed their mind.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Awesome and committed. It’s really cool to see familiar faces at shows, it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s great to see underground artists being promoted so enthusiastically. We dig.
15. Something to add?
Thanks for interviewing us!
