Arms For Elephants - Interview
In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore band Arms For Elephants from USA, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The name "Arms for Elephants" popped into my head one day, no idea where the thought came from. In short it means "protection for the defenseless".
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We all grew up listening to pop-punk and later gravitated towards heavier music like Underoath and Silverstein. Nowadays we all listen to a little bit of everything but alternative music has a special place in our hearts and we love writing and performing it.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Matt and I (Fletch) are cousins and we've been playing in bands with Derek since we were in high school. We've always had great chemistry, and when we met Tom last year we knew this band was going to be our best yet.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Matt: Anberlin
Fletch: Anberlin
Tom: Four Year Strong
Derek: Memphis May Fire
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Music is our favorite art-form, it can change your heart rate and it can unite a room full of people in a few seconds. So in a manner of speaking, music itself inspires us to write music...or rather, all the musicians who make music that inspires us. Of all the things music can do, the greatest is the way you can use it to help people. The fact that we can potentially make a difference in someone's life is a huge motivation for us to do what we do.
6. Where was your last gig?
We just finished "The Influence of Motion Tour" with Sleep Signals that took us from Wisconsin through the midwest, up the west coast, and back through the northwest. We had some great shows and some not so great shows, but the last one was by far the best of the whole tour. Chesterfield in Sioux City, Iowa was incredible. Every band killed it and the crowd was amazing.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would love to tour anywhere and everywhere. The US has been great, but it would be amazing to do this overseas as well. A Europe/Asia tour would be particularly exciting.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
I think If we could choose anyone it would be between Underoath, Anberlin, Memphis May Fire, and Four Year Strong.
9. Whom not?
Any group/artist that's entirely different sounding than us. If we're playing with bands that are even remotely similar to us, we'll gain mutual fans.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
We all feel it from time to time, and it's something that's kind of tough to know how to overcome. My advice would be to remember that no matter how well you do, you're gonna give it your best shot and that's good enough. You may need improvement in certain areas, but actually going on stage and performing is a learning experience for everyone and it's an opportunity to share your art that you'll get better at every time.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
There are so many that it's hard to only name a few, but some of them include: Underoath, Silverstein, Anberlin, Memphis May Fire, Conditions, Four Year Strong, Saosin, and Secret & Whisper.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We've been asked to take pictures with people, sign CD's, shirts, sticks, and stickers but there's never been anything weird yet...but we're looking forward to when someone asks us to do something truly bizarre.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Everyone says they love their fans, and we really do. We want to actually be friends with them. When that happens, it's incredible. We've made friends on the road and online through this band and it's amazing because we can actually see firsthand that our music can affect people in a positive way and get to be affected by them as well.
14. What do you think of our site?
The first thing we noticed was that your repertoire is extremely huge. It's impressive and we appreciate people like you who care enough to help both musicians and music lovers.
15. Something to add?
Thanks for having us! Our debut full length album "My Judas Scene" is available for pre-order on Itunes, or on Bandcamp/Spotify/Google Play when it officially releases September 1st 2015!
