Grey Skies Over Rapture - Interview
In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal/Death Metal/Djent band Grey Skies Over Rapture from New Zealand, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
I initially had the idea 'Grey Skies Over Rapture' for an EP that we were working on. I had kept it secret though and when we were looking at renaming the band I had it in the back of my mind. Andrew and I were discussing the band name over Facebook and I was aware that Jake was wanting a one word band name. So I cheekily suggested 'Grey Skies Over Rapture' and it stuck. (Richard)
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Metal music is pretty fun to play, it's musically challenging, and yeah i like it too. (Andrew)
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I knew Andrew from the local scene. We had both been in bands that had gigged together for a few years before we started Grey Skies. Andrew knew Ben from the School of Rock (which is a mentor based band situation for teenagers who are interested in being in a band), and Andrew met Jake through the singer in the bands earliest incarnation. (Richard)
4. Each band member favourite band?
Jake loves the Deftones, which shines through the drumming he brings in. Ben is into these guys called Destrage from Italy, sounds like Metalcore mixed with Protest The Hero. Lately I've been into The Antichrist Imperium. Richard likes The Black Dahlia Murder and Dissection, all the ruthless shit for him.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I was initially inspired by bands like The Black Dahlia Murder and Dissection. I guess writing music has always been a thing that I was interested in and compelled to do. (Richard)
6. Where was your last gig?
It was in a town called New Plymouth on the west coast of New Zealand, we were supporting for a tour called March Of The Dirty Wizards with Gunt, DIC, Winterborn and The Heathen Collective. Check all of those bands out too they're great musicians and people. (Andrew)
7. Where would you like to act?
I would like to play outside of New Zealand. I have ideas adventuring with the band and playing to different crowds of people. I think ultimately I would like to end up in Sweden, Germany or America though. That would be sweet. (Richard)
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Anyone really, we're not too picky. (Andrew)
9. Who not?
There isn't really any band I wouldn't want to play with. I generally think if people are keen to have us then we will try and do it. (Richard)
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I'm pretty sure we've all been pretty good not succumbing to stage fright, when we opened for Suffocation and Decapitated in May I felt anxious about what people would think of us but the audience went crazy for us. Sometimes it's better not to care what people think so you can get the maximum enjoyment out of things. (Andrew)
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For me it would have to be The Black Dahlia Murder and Darkest Hour. The albums Deliver Us by Darkest Hour and Miasma/Nocturnal by The Black Dahlia Murder really taught me alot about what being a vocalist in a band is about and what to strive for. (Richard)
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing, so far. (Andrew)
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are great! I'm stoked that there are people who like coming to see us and listening to our music. (Richard)
14. What do you think of our site?
It's cool, great to see people that are out there helping bands like us, its a real game changer in a game constantly changing. Thanks for the interview guys! (Andrew)
15. Something to add?
I hope you check out the our new EP 'Between Worlds' and we appreciate all of the support we have gotten! (Richard)
