The Contradiction - Interview
In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Groove/Djent band The Contradiction from Czech Republic, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Nikita: Our ex-member Assylkhan Shaidollayev offered this band name, when we tried to play our music first time in school years. We wanted to play some raw, aggressive alternative metal with lyrics about wolrd’s injustice and kinda stuff to release our teenage anger; that’s why we needed the similar name as our music was. Later, when I moved to Czech Republic from Kazakhstan and made The Contradiction as my own internet-project (before it became a regular “band” again, as now), I decided to keep this band name.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Nikita: Because it’s our music, which comes from our hearts. We’re really felt in love with oriental metal and we just want to try to play it with another cool genres, such as prog, groove and may be even black metal. Who knows…
Bogdan: Well, actually it’s just because you can use all these awesome phrygian scales and mix them with every heavy djenty riff. EZ, lol.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Nikita: Nope, we didn’t.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Bogdan: Megadeth!
Stanislav: Cannibal Corpse.
Nikita: Shokran.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Nikita: I don’t remember what inspiration I had earlier – just wrote riff by riff and later mixed them in one song. However, now I’m inspiring with my favorite sci-fi universe: Warhammer 40,000. It is a huge setting with a lot of literature and games. Actually, our incoming autumn EP will be dedicated to this universe – that’s why Warhammer is so important for me.
6. Where was your last gig?
Nikita: Our last gig was in Semey – it is in the galaxy far far away in eastern Kazakhstan. Me and Bogdan spending every summer holidays there, so we decided to play our stuff with another cool bands out there. We really wanted to show what we actually can this year – and we showed. We played only with two guitars and sample drums+keys. People was shocked and amazed equally.
Bogdan: The concert in Semey was pretty challenging for us, but we made through it. It was very unusual to perform only with two guitars, so we had to play our parts with smallest number of mistakes. It was a good chance for us to see what we can realy do and on what should we put more attention
7. Where would you like to act?
Bogdan: Anywhere, if there will be at least one listener.
Nikita: I’m looking for gigs in Europe just because it’s the nearest point we can reach for now. Stanislav: Somewhere in America. I think this is an important indicator of the band’s level.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Nikita: Dmitry Demyanenko (Shokran), Matt Zuleger (Shades of Black) and Anton Rogov (Oceans Red, ex-The Hysteria) – this is my “dream team” for featuring.
9. Whom not?
Nikita: No one. We like everybody!
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Stanislav: It's simple to beat any bad habit, actually. JUST DO IT! Isn’t that simple?
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Nikita: Lamb of God, The Korea, Shokran and As Blood Runs Black. I’ll spoil to you a bit of our forthcoming stuff – you would hear there some influence of Shades of Black, The Hysteria and even Second to Sun (SIC!). We really want to change the course of our music with every new release just because it’s interesting as hell! We can’t just stand on one place and do same music every year. We’ll experiment with everything but our favorite oriental sound.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nikita: One of our fans asked for a tabs of our track “The Fallen” few years ago. He promised us to make a guitar cover of this track, but he still don’t hurry – now, few years later, we regulary chatting in internet and I continue to trolling him about this cover. He still talks that “he’s working on it”.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Nikita: Our fan-base isn’t big enough for now, but still they’re best. And I’m not joking. You know, month ago we started an crowdfunding company in “Russian part of internet”, where we collect 200$ or something like that – and we was amazed with this. It a little amount of money, of course, but it still stuns – we are unknown metal band and still didn’t recorded anything but one single (I don’t consider our demo-EP “A Piece of the East” as something serious anymore) and we still collect at least any money. Of course it was our fans, who didn’t regret their money and gave them to us. For this – and for their support – we love them.
