Realm Of Torment - Interview
In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Realm Of Torment from UK, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Jonny: There is a band from Belgium called Crawlspace who are a mix of Heavy Hardcore / Death Metal / Beatdown who some of us are into, they have an album called Enter The Realm Of Chaos. I was just listening to it at the time & thought the concept of being trapped in ‘Realm’ was pretty cool, then Torment came to mind as a word I don’t really hear get used all too that much. For me as well it brings forward pretty gloomy / atmospheric kind of thoughts imagery wise. I think the name can be lead open to take a few different ways message wise as well.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Jonny: We all grew up on metalcore, deathcore & metal so this is has always been our favourite thing to listen to from an external perspective, therefore playing it is just the obvious choice music wise.
David: Parkway Drive. The first band I was in was a metalcore band (as I’m sure is the case with everyone in the hardcore scene.) I was in a ‘hardcore’ band for a bit. But I’ve got to admit, this is so much more fun.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Jonny: We knew of each other but weren’t really friends at the start, more just knowing who each other was from being at shows.
David: Jonny used to be really up himself and ignore me all the time even though I’d been going to the shows he put on for about 2 years. I was kind of surprised I even got asked to join as I thought he didn’t like me. Without Jorba becoming friends with my girlfriend at the time I don’t think I would have even been considered to join the band, so it’s all thanks to him really.
Jonny: David was really just afraid of saying hi to me, jealous of my two-step.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Jonny: Killswitch Engage
David: Deftones
Nathan: Anything nu-metal
Jack: Anything made in the 90s with a dischord or two
Andy: Always impossible to get hold of so a good guess at this is stuff like Whitechapel, The Acacia Strain & PWD etc.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Jonny: Music-wise what inspires me is listening to old late 90s, but mainly early 00s metalcore & thinking this is the best music ever created.
David: When I was writing lyrics to the first songs I wasn’t really taking inspiration from any band, I was just writing about important issues that I believe more people should hear/talk about. But the newer songs on the record definitely have a strong influence from bands like Disembodied and you’ll be able to recognize that a lot more when we start writing for the next release.
6. Where was your last gig?
Jonny: At the start of October we toured with our friends Splitknuckle. They’re secretly a metalcore band who like to think they play metal / hardcore / beatdown, they’re just too afraid to admit it.
7. Where would you like to act?
Jonny: We’re starting to talk about new touring plans currently, hopefully we can get over to Europe in 2016, I’m not really sure how we would go down over there as I’ve never heard much about us from people over there, so it would be good to see whether what we’re doing interests on the mainland. Apart from that we’re just up for playing anywhere providing we can afford it!
David: I really want to go back to Glasgow soon, or Reading. In terms of new places, going over to Europe would be quite cool. America is in to the metalcore revival thing right now so going over there would be amazing, I just don’t think I’d be able to last 10 days without a beer.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Jonny: I want to play with Unearth, & I want Undying to reform by taking us on tour, that is the dream.
David: If we managed to jump on something like Never Say Die or Warped Tour my life would be complete. Guaranteed sick metalcore bands to play with and watch every day. So if you’re reading this Kevin Lyman hit me up.
9. Whom not? Jonny - Not with Maroon 5
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
David: I used too quite a bit when I first joined the band, not really stage fright but feeling very self-conscious whilst performing. If I start feeling that now I will normally just run into the crowd and jump into everyone. Much less awkward than just standing still on stage. To be honest, what helped me was getting really drunk before playing, but I think Jonny wouldn’t be too happy with me recommending using alcohol as a crutch. So my official answer would be to watch the first Parkway Drive documentary right before the show. And if that doesn’t work maybe you’re listening to the wrong music.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
David: Parkway Drive 100% musically and their whole ethic. As I mentioned earlier if you don’t get inspired by watching either one of their documentaries then you’re an idiot.
They are the reason I wanted to start playing in bands and I am forever grateful. Shame their new album is a piece of shit.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
David: Sex, Next Question?
Jonny: ……….
13. What do you think of your fans?
Jonny: I think thanks for last 2 years of those terrible recordings before we made it to this album. Things are only going to continue to improve.
David: To be honest with you it’s a very strange thing to think that even one person likes this band, so thank you very much. And if we have any single ladies who like the band and are reading this.
14. What do you think of our site?
David: I just spent about an hour on the Easy Core section and I am so happy that genre still exists and there is somewhere I can find all these bands in one place 10/10. And I assure you, I am not being sarcastic.
15. Something to add?
David: If you haven’t done already listen to Repentance, Renounced, In Tongues, Ithaca and Gaia Bleeds. Sick UK metalcore. Also big up Harley for pretty much doing everything for the album. I’ll pay you eventually.
Jonny: Your Little Suburbia in Ruins by August Burns Red is possibly the best Metalcore song of all time, if you wanna know why come speak to me at a show.
