The Shapers - Interview

The Shapers Online Promo Shot

In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Pop Punk/Rock band The Shapers from France, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Our name comes from a skateboard story. As we were in a skate shop to buy a new skateboard, the seller was always talking about the “shape” of the board, using this word in English. We had a lot of fun because our mate Nicolas did not get the meaning, but was acting as if he did. As we were looking for a name, “The Shapers” came into my mind and it fitted well with our spirit, so we chose it. Shapers are people who craft surfboards. As real life shapers make surfboards to bring fun into the world, we want to make songs to ensure people enjoy their life.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We all grew up listening to punk rock while watching skateboarding videos. We love the positive energy that pop punk - punk rock brings, and all the fun around. We play music that that we like, and which matches perfectly with our lifestyle and us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Our story is pretty complicated but basically I (Anthony) created the band with 2 friends in 2009 that I knew since high school. Benoit and Raphaël have been picked along the way among our friends, as the two other founder members left the band. However, we are all now a big family, and our past members still regularly help us today.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Anthony : Nirvana

Raphaël : Blink-182

Benoit : Zebrahead

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life is our main inspiration, things happening directly to us or around us. Everyone can face life issues, and music inspired from that can be a good support.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was a few days ago in Toulouse, our hometown in South of France. Our second to last gig was in Jakarta, Indonesia, where we feel like home too.

7. Where would you like to act?

We have already played in amazing places, and we would really like to play everywhere. We really love touring and discovering new countries.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

So many! But Deryck Whibley, Tom Delonge or Billie Joe Armstrong would be sick !

9. Whom not?

Is this a trap? haha

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Our drummer always goes to toilets right before the shows… That’s a bit embarrassing to us ! The key is to practice a lot. Practicing is never too much and will make you feel confident for the shows.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I think each member has a way of playing inspired by his own influences, and then the band’s sound is a mix of all of this.  To name a few, I would say Green Day, SUM 41, Nirvana, The Subways, Blink-182, A Day To Remember…

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We have a lot of weird stories!  The most recent is a fan who invited us for dinner after a show. When we arrived at the place, there was a big bowl with goats’ brains, tongues, and other terrible things. We discovered the dinner was going to be an inner goat soup, with eyes floating inside… And it was not Halloween!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are awesome and we love to connect with them. We can’t thank them enough for their support. It really touches us to see people singing our songs at shows or spreading the word about us.

14. What do you think of our site?

You are doing an amazing job. Sites supporting music like yours are really important for bands from the underground scene. Thank you!

15. Something to add?

We are very involved in social media, so don't hesitate to ask us anything, we will reply you for sure! We’re waiting for you on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram @theshapers.  Also, we invite you to watch our latest music video, from our upcoming EP: https://youtu.be/3yXEMGbEtG4
