Vaultry - Interview
In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Post-Hardcore band Vaultry from Canada, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Our last band ended, we wanted to start something completely new, in a different direction. So we started coming up with ideas for names. We weren’t sure if we wanted it to mean something, so we just started spewing random names. Josh was trying to come up with names and he has a bobble head of Pit Boy from Fallout and he saw the name “Vault-tec” on the label, so he came up with extensions of that name until he came up with Vaultry. So it’s a totally made up word that really could have any meaning you want to give to it. We’ve heard it’s also a rare familial name, so any Vaultrys out there say hi.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We all just really like passionate music, and we just wanted to inspire people the same way that bands inspired us back when were kids.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Josh, Brad and Chase were all previously in another band. Brad met Leith at his work when he was a cashier at a Grocery store and Brad mentioned they were looking for a singer so he went and auditioned, eventually joining Vaultry in February 2014. Skye just recently joined the band as our new drummer and we knew him from the music scene around Victoria.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Leith: La Dispute.
Chase: Glassjaw.
Josh: Everytime I Die.
Brad: AFI.
Skye: Nothing More.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We all really love just writing music, and we think that the feeling you get when you let your creativity go wild in a room together is something euphoric you can’t really match anywhere else. It’s like building a house, but a really really sweet house.
6. Where was your last gig?
Big Fernwood Community Centre in Victoria BC. It was on the basketball court. We played with The Perfect Trend for their farewell tour, with our good friends in No Liars.
7. Where would you like to act?
Anywhere we can. We all want to travel, meet new people, and experience new things.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We’re down to play with anyone! But if we had to pick: Being As An Ocean, Flood Of Red, La Dispute, Architects, Underoath (Dreaming Big), He Is Legend, Parkway Drive, Thrice, Circa Survive, While She Sleeps, and Misery Signals.
9. Whom not?
Limp Bizkit. Cuz they break shit.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Most of us don’t really get stage fright anymore, it’s more anticipation and excitement. Leith because he’s so new to being a vocalist still gets nervous sometimes. As far as advice, rehearse a lot, be prepared for anything, and hang out with people before your set, you’ll feel a lot less awkward if you’re playing for familiar faces.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Leith: La Dispute, again, just a band that changed my perception of lyricism and artistry, and I hope to one day meet Jordan Dreyer to tell him how much he’s helped me grow as a musician and writer.
Brad: AFI, since the first moment I saw them at Warped Tour, I was instantly drawn to their expressive energy and the fact that they didn’t let up for the whole set.
Josh: Mostly local artists who got me involved with the scene.
Chase: Glassjaw, they really showed me how much you can create through experimenting with different sounds and textures to give off atmosphere and feeling.
Skye: Misery Signals, big influence of mine.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
One time at a show, a fan asked Brad for his sweaty shirt. It was weird.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We think of our fans as friends, we just love to hang out with people!
14. What do you think of our site?
We think what your team is doing is great! Keep promoting great bands and getting the word out about the underground!
15. Something to add?
We want to let everyone know our EP is available on Bandcamp for free and we’re planning out a music video as well for early next year. And if you like the stuff please come say hi on Facebook or twitter or instagram or wherever else we are. We’re easy.
