Comatose - Interview
In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Beatdown Deathcore band Comatose from USA, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them.We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Matty: I joined after the name was decided upon.
Chance: The name came out like that.
Kevin: Well after being in my old band Departure which you guys also interviews us in, I wanted a name that would fit the state I felt like while being in Departure. We all agreed that we felt like we weren't reaching our full potential and felt like we were big held back and even put into a comatose state musician wise. So I came up with the name Comatose to the guys and they all liked it.
Manny: We just threw names in hat and Comatose stuck. It just made sense to all of us.
Junior: We sat down and pretty much brainstormed together.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Matty: I decided to play this genre because it was out of my comfort zone and w anted to blend it with the type of music I currently write as a musician to help expand my musical range.
Chance: This genre is more technical and let's you get more emotion out.
Kevin: I was personally tired of being in a metal core band, deathcore band and anything in that spectrum, I wanted to play something more hardcore, beatdown, slams and brutal deathcore. As you can see with our vocalist the direction we want to go in is clear.
Manny: The love of heavy music.
Junior: We've all been in our share of shitty bands and just wanted to combine like interests
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Matty: I knew Kevin before hand for a few years but besides that I really had no idea who anyone was, but they all made me feel welcome regardless.
Chance: Yes.
Kevin: I've know Matty for about 4 years, manny for 3 and chance for about a year and a half and Junior is the newest addition to my life haha.
Manny: My best friend is the drummer (Kevin). We worked in Departure together, it only made sense after we broke up that we'd continue on to work together cause we work best when we mix our minds. Everyone else I met through him and they've been my best friends ever since.
Junior: I knew Kevin and Manny from my previous band.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Matty: Rose Funeral, I declare war, Hester prynne, and hell followed with, suffokate, a night in Texas, winds of plague, slaughter to prevail, aversions crown, the raven autarchy, the Browning, king conquer, miss may I, the plot in you, fir for an autopsy, Lorna shore, Carnifex, make them suffer, shores of Elysium and the list can keep going. The only band that i love, love, love is rose funeral.
Chance: For The Fallen Dreams.
Kevin: Wow, I can't really pick haha, my favorite bands as of now would be, Reflections, Thy Art Is Murder, Aversions Crown, Whitechapel, Texas in July and so many others.
Manny: Memphis May Fire. Even though I don't listen to them on a daily basis they are and always will be my favorite band.
Junior: Da crown.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Matty: Well a lot of those bands I listed inspired me but there are other inspirations. My struggle with my family, my depression, my anger and even losing my daughter all have influences on how I right my music. Music without emotion is just sound.
Chance: Local bands and meeting new people to become friends.
Kevin: Pretty much my parents are cold blooded old fashioned Christians, and they hate this music and hate what I do, so it drives me to prove them wrong that someone can come of this and I work harder and harder everyday to get somewhere so when something huge finally happens I can tell them "see I didn't have to become a fucking doctor to be successful".
Manny: Everybody in the band inspires me to write the songs we write. It's a mixing of our own unique styles is what comes out in our songs, and with the help of Chris Wiseman (Guitarist of Currents) things get taken to the next level.
Junior: Rude awakening.
6. Where was your last gig?
Matty: My last gig was when I was 14 at a community college in my hometown Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
Chance: Palladium for napalm death.
Kevin: My last gig was with Departure at Point Beach Clubhouse in Milford CT.
Manny: Milford, CT. I along with everyone else in the band can attest to this, we love our brothers and sisters in the local scene.
Junior: Point beach.
7. Where would you like to act?
Matty: Acting is for pussies.
Chance: Anywhere.
Kevin: My dream place to play would have to be Impericon, hands down.
Manny: Texas. I just really would love to experience that area.
Junior: A nice big professional venue soon.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Matty: I would love to play with Rose Funeral one day that would be a dream dream true.
Chance: Fit For An Autopsy.
Kevin: I want to feature Mark Poida from Aversions Crown on a track.
Manny: Anyone. If the band fits let's play together. But if I had to chose I would love to play with my boys in PRY, Boundaries, Limitless, and Lowpoints.
Junior: Vincent Bennet.
9. Whom not?
Matty: Who I would never play with? Attila I hate Fronz.
Chance: The Bunny The Bear.
Kevin: I would never let someone that doesn't have the vocal range below my vocalist on a track. As shitty as that sounds.
Manny: I wouldn't exclude anyone if you offer your music and it's passion fueled I would love to jam with you.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Matty: When I played my first show I was very nervous. I took an extra ten minutes tuning my guitar because i thought i was going to puke, but I had to stop delaying and get on the stage. The hardest part is stepping onto that stage. As soon as you start playing and just getting into the music you forget that people are even there. My suggestion for people with stage fright is very simple, just go out no matter how scared or nervous you may be and play the music you love.
Chance: Never. My tip for stage fright is to simply go out and show people who you are and what you want to do.
Kevin: My first gig, 2013. I use to play drums at church but it had been about 4 years since I really played in front of anyone. So it was pretty surreal that I was playing on a stage and in front of all my friends who have only ever seen me mosh and go to shows, and not really do much else. But I was next to go up and I was a wreck it took a few of my friends in other bands to hug me and calm me down. That anxiety of hoping people like you is no joke. My tip for beating stage fright is honestly just remember regardless if you suck, if you mess up or you feel people don't care, it only matters that you have fun. Your friends will always support you and show you that you mean something to them. Just remember to always always always BREATHE. There will always be more shows and its called improvement.
Manny: Power through it. Once you get through half your set muscle memory and adrenaline will take over and you'll have the time of your life.
Junior: Don't be a pussy.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Matty: Okay go back to question 4 and come back.
Chance: Enterprise Earth , Fit For An Autopsy , Chelsea Grin and For The Fallen Dreams.
Kevin: Texas in July hands down has influenced me in every way possible. To the point where I even p,any like Adam Grey. I move just like him and play grooves like him. It's amazing I got to meet him once and it was pretty dope hanging with someone you've always just heard on your phone since you were a teenager and never thought in a million years I'd get to meet him.
Manny: Memphis May Fire, Miss May I, and For Today they've helped me through rough times in life and continue to do so.
Junior: Desolated.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Matty: Nothing.
Chance: Nudes.
Kevin: I've never had a fan ask me for anything besides to hang with me or anything haha have never met a weird fan...YET..haha.
Manny: I'm just a local musician man. I'm not at that level where I'd have a weird fan yet.
Junior: A jar of mayo.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Matty: I love my fans I have so far. They support the band as a whole as well as all of us as individuals. That's the best feeling you can get when playing in a band and making music.
Chance: Very supportive and genuine.
Kevin: I love my fans, I have people that personally say I'm they're favorite drummer, when I feel like I suck, but I love that they see me as an inspiration, a role model and even an older brother in some cases. The unconditional support we get as a band is surreal, I never thought my music could make an impact.
Manny: LOVE THEM. Bands don't thrive if they don't have unconditional support from fans family, and friends.
Junior: Honestly don't know pretty much that they're awesome for supporting us in what we do.
14. What do you think of our site?
Matty: Worse than stage 3 lung cancer.
Chance: Well organized and new.
Kevin: You guys have had us on your site before but as Departure my old band, and I find it pretty amazing because due to your site we gained fans all over the world!
Manny: It's tight I've worked with you guys before with an interview for Departure. It's a great medium for bands to really express themselves. Thanks for that!
Junior: It's pretty dope, love the support you guys show bands.
15. Something to add?
Matty: More techno.
Kevin: I would just like to add that when it comes down to it, your nothing without the support of the people who want you to succeed and further yourself in your life. Thank you for the interest in my band and thank you for doing what your doing!
Junior: Comatose crew. Shout out to filth fam. Boundaries. ARF. knockout cth.
Manny: Your support is greatly appreciated!
