Surfacing - Interview
In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Metal/Hard Rock band Surfacing from USA, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them.We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
When it came time to choose a name I told the guys to come to practice with a list of names. I looked through a lot of song titles and came across Surfacing from Slipknot. When it came time to decide we eliminated all but that one.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
At the time when we started this band we were heavily into metalcore and have been fans for years. We all grew up together listening to various rock and metal so our choice of genre didn't stray from the path much.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes for the most part. 4 of us grew up in Greenpoint together then we met our singer Ryan who was also from the neighborhood. We met our guitarist Brian in 2014 when he auditioned.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Joe D: Linkin Park
Tony: Godsmack
Ryan: Hall and Oates
Brian: Converge
Adam: Blink 182
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Working on music is simply my passion and I enjoy doing nothing more. I knew I wanted to be a musician before my teenage years so I think all those years looking forward to it has given me a spark for life. As for this album in particular I wanted to give the metalcore community something full bodied that they could really sink their teeth into. Something that fans of the genre for the last 15 years can really appreciate as opposed to relying on current trends. That was definitely a big inspiration in writing this album.
6. Where was your last gig?
Black Bear Bar in Brooklyn, NY. We play there regularly.
7. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Surfacing is far from shy on stage. The only tip I could add is to just do it. Experience is the best teacher and in due time you'll come out of your shell.
8. What bands have inspired you the most?
My two biggest inspirations are Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park and Kanye West. I could go on and on about all the albums that I love but these two men are the biggest reasons I do what I do. I love Shinoda for his diversity and Kanye for his unapologetic passion.
9. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Haven't received anything too odd lately.
10. What do you think of your fans?
They should keep up the good work.
11. What do you think of our site?
Also, keep up the good work haha.
12. Something to add?
Thank you for having me. I'd like to take this time to just encourage anyone out there who has a dream, a vision, a passion. Get out there and persevere, it'll happen one day. I started this band when I was an 18 year old college dropout and here I am a 25 year old married man releasing the album that I've wanted to make since I was 11. Don't ever give up. Happy holidays everyone.
