Throw The Temple - Interview
In this new occasion we have the great opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Alternative Rock band Throw The Temple from USA, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them.We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Our name was kind of on a whim. It was meant to representing not compromising your beliefs or passion for anything or anyone. We stuck with it since we are the only thing that comes up if you search "Throw The Temple" on the internet haha, and it really started to fit us, it became a statement.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
I wouldn't personally say we've ever been tied to a genre per se. Obviously it's within the spectrum of hard rock, but we definitely explore every nook and cranny of what that can encompass. One thing we've noticed through time is that a lot of bands are using backing tracks, and we've admired bands that do things in concert, right in front of you. I think that's what makes me like the rock style is that it's one of the few genres left where you can compose your music and write your own lyrics and play your instruments. It's more challenging and I think we all like challenging in this band.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Prior to the band, we had not actually met, but over the years have really taken a sense of family with each other. This band has become a family who bonded over the love of making music. We all met on Craigslist or facebook, we were all strangers prior to the band. Of course, through some time, you really spend time finding that right fit, and now I know I couldn't be happier with the turn out.
4. Each band member favourite band?
We all like everything, from death metal, gangster rap, blues, rock and roll, R&B, and everything in between. You name it, we probably love it and listen to it. Except for Toby Keith.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We like songs that drive and have direction! I think like most song writers we are inspired by events and times that happen in our lives. We are a very song oriented writing team when it comes to getting in there and jamming new material, so if it's good for the song, it's in the song, if it's not good for the song, it doesn't go.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was a local hometown show here in Albuquerque at the Launchpad. We opened for the multi platinum band Trapt that night. The show was a couple of weeks ago, it was a really great opportunity for us, we got to meet a lot of cool people. Before that, our last local show was opening for Brooklyn, NY's Highly Suspect. That was probably one of my favorite shows to play ever.
7. Where would you like to act?
We just want to play wherever they will have us! We just genuinely like making music together and the icing is ALWAYS performing, I think it's something I could do every night and never really get tired of it.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Queens of the Stone Age hands down is personally my (Gabriel, lead vocalist) dream band to open for. We are always open to play for anyone at any time, as long as there's an energy!
9. Whom not?
I really couldn't name any bands that I specifically or actively DON'T want to play with haha. I think as long as we can vibe with the crowd, it really doesn't matter. Obviously no one wants to play with artists who scare off a crowd, whether it's bad music or bad viewpoints, or bands who generally upset people, so I'll go with Toby Keith. Fuck Toby Keith for no particular reason.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Every time I think of being scared, I remember that fuck Toby Keith does this shit for a handsome wage. If he can do it, anybody can. In reality, it's normal to feel the nerves, but conquering them always feels better. No one will ever feel good about coming off stage saying "I totally looked scared up there!!!". I think the key, and this is a sports analogy, is "look like you've been there before". When you score a goal or whatever kind of touch point you're trying to score, you will ALWAYS look cooler if you brush things off like you meant to. So drive forward, like you mean every moment of that show, and you can't go wrong. The biggest and most important cliche is to be yourself. Lose yourself on stage, get lost in doing what you do, when you see video of yourself you will not remember doing things because you're in the song. When you are yourself on stage, and you're enjoying it, the best chance is that people will enjoy it as well.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Again, bands like Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age, Beatles, anyone who was out there doing it for real. We are just four dudes with our instruments, so we get inspired by the bands out there doing it raw, just with their bodies, voices and instruments singing about real life things. Any band that puts on a good show always pushes us to get better every single time as well,
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Most weird requests from fans come in the form of cover ideas. It's been widely known locally that we cover "Pony" by Ginuwine, so people are always suggesting the next R&B song to cover, or people are always suggesting the weirdest songs to cover for reasons I will never understand. I think that is part of a band though, people always want to hear different things, and if they hear you do something a little bit out of the ordinary for you, they tend to see where else in that direction you will go.
Shamefully, at our CD release party, a guy asked me to sign his CD in a specific fashion: he requested for me to write that I wish he had a bigger mouth so that he can better accommodate a certain bodily appendage on my body that shouldn't be mentioned in said mouth. I did it, I'm not sure I've seen the guy since and I'm certainly not sure what the purpose of that specific autograph was. I'm not sure what else can be construed as weird, as we are all pretty weird ourselves, we've worn tights at shows for fun, I've dropped trou a few times at shows. We always do this thing in the moment, so it's always fun. Weird requests are fun because they are memorable, you never quite forget someone after they ask for something in the weird spectrum. So help me God if anyone ever tried to have me sign a Toby Keith CD, though. A man has limits.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Without fans, you can't really keep doing this. At least, not without spending money. Without our fans, our album couldn't have come out, our shows wouldn't be as fun, and food wouldn't taste as good. They're that important to us. We want to do everything we can to make them smile at shows, have their heads nodding, their toes tapping and after, we give them all hugs who want to talk to us. The fans are the reason we are here and the reason we can continue doing this.
14. What do you think of our site?
Anyone who gives an up and coming band a chance to be heard is something to be incredibly thankful for. We are all incredibly thankful that you provide an outlet for newer, independent bands, to be heard. Thank you guys for having us!
15. Something to add?
We are incredibly grateful for everyone checking this out. Our new album "No Way But Down" is available on just about every internet store, from Amazon, Google, iTunes, all for less than $8. We would love to have you check it out and thank you for continuing to support little bands like us who are clawing our way up! It's not possible without you!
