Interviews: Cold Summer
In this new occasion we have the awesome opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore band Cold Summer from UK, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them.We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Justin: In honesty its quite an open to interpretation name with the oxymoron. But to me personally I named it after a summer I went through leaving home just prior to forming the band. A few years ago my mum wasn’t so well during summer, and obviously I’ll be honest like the best times of my life have generally been in the summer. I had a really ‘cold’ feeling in myself at that time with what was going on in my life and I felt so dissociative. Starting the band for me was kind of a cure for a lot of negative feelings as well.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Chris Harrison: For me personally, when i was growing up the passion stems from getting into heavier bands, they excited me and inspired me at time and still do, like for example the nu metal era in particular
Dan: Upon first hearing Tim McIlrath’s voice and Rise Against really for this band in particular. I love aggressive music regardless of genre.
Justin: I just like how it pulls in various influences both being heavy / soft emotional and melodic all kind of works when putting your songs together i guess!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Chris Hepworth: Both me and Chris did but we all happened to be outward looking for each other at the same time and it just happened!
4. Each band member favourite band?
Dan: Green Day.
Justin: Beastie Boys.
Chris Harrison: Letlive.
Chris Hepworth: Deftones.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Dan: Billy Joe Armstrong (Green Day) & Freddy Mercury (Queen), I write a lot of songs after listening to Rise Against and hip hop records as well.
Chris Harrison: Red Hot Chilli Peppers in particular John Frusciante’s guitar work is a big influence and inspiration.
Chris Hepworth: Dan gets a lot of inspiration that stems from anxiety more on a personal level to him but what we all experience in every day life.
6. Where was your last gig?
Justin: Our last show was at the Key Club in Leeds which is a fairly new venue in its current name, we opened for Grieved & Employed To Serve, with False Flags also from leeds supporting, all the bands have just fairly recently released great records so was a pleasure to play with them even though they are at the heavier end of the spectrum.
7. Where would you like to act?
Justin: Well up to now we have shy’d away from playing festivals, so Leeds festival would be amazing and we’ve love to tour allover europe.
Chris Harrison: Royal Albert Hall, Brixton Academy, we’ve always enjoyed playing shows in London.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Justin: Being hopefully realistic for us we’ve love to tour with Marmozets as we haven’t played with those guys yet even though they are from around the same area as us. Milk Teeth would be awesome too their new record is so amazing! so it would be great to do a show with them again or more so a tour as we haven’t toured with them and if their video updates are anything to go by a tour with them would be a total riot.
Chris Harrison: We played with Zoax on the London date of our tour with He Is Legend so it would be great to play with those guys again.
9. Whom not?
Justin: Just any bands that have sexist, homophobic and racist views.
Dan: Any ‘put together by a record company' bands as well
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Chris Harrison: In the past I have but I’d combat it with a few glasses of wine, it has turned more to excitement rather than anxiety though as time has passed.
Dan: You wouldn’t be human if you didn’t at some point.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Justin: Dan definitely draws a lot of influence from bands in punk rock he’s grown up with and still enjoys today, bands like Green Day, Rise Against and Thrice are the key ones I reckon I think we all dig bands that develop their own sound, I think the Deftones, ….And You’ll Know Us By The Trail Of Dead are a good example of bands that in my eyes go beyond being a ‘straight forward’ rock band. We’ve got of a lot of influences rooted in heavier music genres, especially myself as a drummer I’m really into hardcore bands like Converge, even though I don’t drum at that tempo they generally do, I mean they have slower more drawn out songs, so I’d cite that kind of stuff in ‘hardcore’ as an influence in what we do as well as the DIY ethics and passion.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Justin: I’ve seen weird things happen to other bands but I think we’ve been quite moderate, probably like an autograph?
13. What do you think of your fans?
Justin: Well just glad that people check out our recorded releases and support us live, its great meeting people we all have a lot of friends who we’ve met because they’ve come to shows we’ve played at.
14. What do you think of our site?
Impressed with the support you give to bands like ourselves who are completely DIY, its great to also find other bands from across the world also doing it for the same love and with the same passion.
15. Something to add?
Justin: Just hope everyone enjoys the new release and that they keep an eye on your site as i’m sure they will find some great bands!
