Cyranoi - Interview
In this new occasion we have the awesome opportunity to interview the Melodic Metalcore band Cyranoi from Finland, here we will let you their FACEBOOK PAGE to give them a like and follow them.We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Tomi: I started this as a soloproject and for a while it was called ”Blinding Delusion” until I'd come up with a better name for it and eventually I did (at least in my opinion haha)! Name Cyranoi comes from english word ”cyrano” which means ”a person who is instructed by radio as to what to say” and I fell in love with the idea of having some deeper meaning behind it. In this case I like to view it as an reminder for everyone to think for themselves.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Tomi: During high school I listened mostly melodic death metal etc but bands like As I Lay Dying and August Burns Red changed the game for me and since then, metalcore has been my choice. Playing that kind of music was only a dream that was not going to happen, ever, but somehow one thing lead to another and we found ourselves founding our first band ”Above My Enemies” which we however quit last year. Anyway, to put it short, I love heaviness and melodies of the music we play.
Joona: I love metal music in general, and especially metalcore, so when I decided that I want to try doing music, I started to audition for metal bands and eventually ended up as the vocalist for Cyranoi.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Joona: Yes we knew each other from our previous band Above My Enemies. When Tomi started making his solo stuff at the time, he asked me to do vocals for his songs and after a while it formed into Cyranoi and this became our main project.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Tomi: I'd love to go with Erra but I'm going to have to say August Burns Red as it has made the most impact in my musical taste.
Joona: That’s a hard question, but I guess since I got a Parkway Drive related tattoo that makes it pretty much my favorite band!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Tomi: I think it comes down to doing what I love and of course those few fans we have that have been incredibly supportive. Nature is also a good source of inspiration for me. I can tell you that almost whole ”Exist” EP was composed at our familys summer cottage in the middle of nowhere and I'd just spend 12 hours a day listening to music and playing guitar. I have to also mention Jake Luhrs and Lindsey Stirling as they have, and still do, inspired me a lot as persons!
Joona: Well, in the case of our new EP, Wikipedia! I love reading random articles and learning new stuff.
6. Where was your last gig?
Joona: We don’t play live with Cyranoi but with our previous band it was bar Zoom in Hyvinkää, a city in Finland.
7. Where would you like to act?
Tomi: Seeing our fans order merch from all around the world is freaking amazing so just having people listen to Cyranoi around the world is a huge thing for me! Also playing live in US, Asia or Australia one day would be incredible, and not to forget Europe!
Joona: It would be awesome to play in US, it’s sort of the place for this kind of music, Australia would be pretty damn dope too, and also Germany!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Tomi: If I were to choose one band from Finland and one from foreign countries I'd go with Circle Of Contempt and Erra. Seeing those bands share a stage or being able to work with them somehow would be absolutely incredible!
Joona: Sirens & Sailors, Stray From The Path, The Devil Wears Prada, Architects, there are so many bands I'd like to work with and so much to learn from them.
9. Whom not?
Tomi: I think anything could turn into a great experience at least!
Joona: I don’t really have a problem with any kind of music, and exposure is always exposure.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Tomi: I think it's easier for me to be on a stage playing guitar than having a speech. Usually you have learnt all those songs well enoughso that you can just go and have fun, enjoy the moment! Don't be afraid of mistakes, everyone makes them!
Joona: Not really, I’m just really excited to get on stage every time, and it has been a while. In my head I just say “fuck it” and go enjoy life and don’t care about if I screw up, I just laugh it off if I do.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Tomi: August Burns Red, Erra and lately Monuments. Also bands like Linkin Park, Slipknot and dubstep violinist Lindsey Striling.
Joona: Parkway Drive initially, at the moment Killswitch Engage.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Joona: We’re still so small band that we don’t really get that stuff.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Tomi: Without them we would be pretty much nothing! It really helps to keep on going knowing that there are people out there who enjoy our music!
Joona: Everyone who willingly listens to our music are fucking awesome!
14. What do you think of our site?
Tomi: It's so amazing to see how music unites people and sites like this really helps everyone. I really appreciate you having us on your site, so thanks for this interview and all other posts!
Joona: I study audiovisual communications so I can appreciate a cool and working website, keep up the good work!
15. Something to add?
Tomi: Our new ”Exist” EP will be available for free download from our Bandcamp site ( https://cyranoi.bandcamp.com ) so be sure to check it out on February 24th ! We hope you enjoy our music as much as we do! Joona: I'm so stocked to release the rest of the EP and I hope that with this release we can reach out to more people!
