Interviews: Not Today

In this new occasion we had the great opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band Not Today from UK. We have nothing more to say than enjoy this interview and like their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The name comes from a line in Toy Story when Buzz and Woody were hurtling through the air with a rocket on Buzz's back. Woody shouts “This is the part where we blow up” and Buzz replies with “Not today.” It's pretty impossible to not love Toy Story and it's such a resilient line that I think fits us as a band too.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Pop punk is an undeniably fun genre to play, it's about getting sweaty on stage while the crowd sings the words straight back at you. It allows us to balance musical creativity whilst still playing music that is all about having the time of your life.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Alex met Mitch via Join My Band, a website where you can post classifieds to find bands to join. We then met Simon and Kris via the Rock Society at Manchester Metropolitan University. They knew Sam who was also part of the Rock Society, so our line-up was complete when we asked him to join the band.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Alex: Enter Shikari/Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls (they both share equally sized places)
Simon: Deaf Havana
Mitch: Blink 182
Sam: Motionless in White/Memphis May Fire
Kris: Metallica

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The world around us and the experiences we go through are our biggest inspiration. We’re all inspired musically by the artists that we’ve grown up listening to, whereas lyrics mainly come from the situations that Alex has found himself in and the way he’s been affected by them.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was actually quite an important one for us, as it was a fundraising show at Bierkeller in Manchester for our producer, Matt Heap, who unfortunately was robbed twice within the same week. We put on the show to raise some money to help him back on his feet.

7. Where would you like to act?

Slam Dunk, Warped Tour, and Reading and Leeds would suffice for now we think!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

A Day to Remember and Four Year Strong would be heaven.

9. Whom not?

Nobody really, we appreciate any opportunity we're given!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We've all had little bits here and there definitely, it's natural. Sam actually got so nervous for our first show that he was basically a statue on stage. The main tip for beating stage fright is to just go for it and try not to overthink what you’re doing. As long as people can see that you’re enjoying being on stage, they’ll enjoy it more as well!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Alex: Hands Like Houses
Simon: Press To Meco
Mitch: Alkaline Trio
Sam: Avenged Sevenfold
Kris: Metallica

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A fan once asked Mitch to go to Portugal because he “doesn't look like Eminem”. We don't understand either, but he says he’s got the screenshots to prove it!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are what make playing shows such an incredible experience, they're why we get so much out of writing the music we do and their support keeps us going more than they perhaps know!

14. What do you think of our site?

The support of independent publications is so important in this scene. These sites help you gain a fanbase when you're still playing to your friends and family and they deserve all the support in the world.

15. Something to add?

Thanks for the interview; we hope you enjoy the EP!
