Interviews: Syren City
In this new occassion we have had the pleasure to interview the Hardcore band Syren City, from UK. Check out this band because they are amazing and do not forget to follow them in their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
It came from being obsessed with Greek mythology. The idea of the Syrens (or Sirens) always intrigued me. So it came from there, basically long talks about a city of Syrens.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We don't really know what genre we class ourselves as. We make the music we want to hear. It wasn't an active choice, we just do whatever we are feeling at the time and go with it.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Me (Simon) and Ian have been playing and writing together for a good while now. We knew Josh, Mat and Sam from other bands/friendship groups before they joined the band.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Simon: Guns n Roses
Ian: Bring Me the Horizon
Josh: Enter Shikari Mat: Deftones
Sam: Streetlight Manifesto
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The songs on our recent concept EP are inspired by a story that I wrote as a graphic novel/film script. It's about two fictional characters, so the characters influenced the mood of the writing.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was in Bath, at the Nest! So very close to home for us.
7. Where would you like to act?
We don't really act, but I guess we wanna go to Hollywood baby!
8. Whom would you like to feature with? And whom not?
We are always open to everyone, so I wouldn't exactly say we'd not wanna feature with anyone in particular. We'd like to play alongside a lot of people, doing the shows Guns n Roses are doing right now would be fun. Arena tours would be swell.
9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I think it's natural to get nerves. I think it shows you care; it'd be a bit odd to not feel anything at all before going on stage. None of us suffer from stage fright though. I think anyone suffering from that should tackle the problem head on. Go in with two feet. If it's far too daunting, maybe try busking first, that's always fun.
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
I'm inspired by bands that overcome. It seems very easy to follow the crowd and be a 'cool' band, but those who try different things against the grain and come out on the other side better for it, holding two fingers up at the doubters, they're truly inspirational. The Rob Zombies, MCRs and Led Zeppelins of the world.
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I once had a fan adamantly ask for me to send her a picture of me and Lyn-Z Way, who I've never met. It got very strange, she ended up getting very threatening and sending photoshopped pics of me and her.
12. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are the best. It's inspiring to see people so dedicated. There's nothing more gratifying than seeing them at shows and speaking to them online, seeing and hearing them enjoying what we do is awesome!
13. What do you think of our site?
Love the BOC site! Super informative about all the topics we love! Keep up the good work!
