Interviews: Incentives

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the   Djent / Progressive Metalcore band Incentives, from Australia. Check out this band because they are amazing and do not forget to follow them in their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Well we honestly struggled to settle on a name and then one day the place we were practicing at asked for a booking name and we just offered up ‘Incentives.’ No one really expected it to stick and we fully intended to change it but we grew to love it and here we are.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

For us I’m not even sure what genre we really play! It’s heavy music but we have so many different aspects from different sub-genres. From melodic hardcore to big ‘djent’ riffs and more hardcore influenced vocals. We kind of just mix in all the stuff we love and hope it makes people feel something, as that’s what we’ve always wanted as consumers of heavy music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Of the three remaining original members Rory (Guitar) kind of linked us all up. Rory went to primary school with Kyle (vocals) and then met Max (Guitar) in Highschool. Rory was yet again main man in finding us a new bass player after we lost a couple with him and Jeremy (Bass) going to Uni together. Then old mate Joe (Drums) came along a lot later in the piece when we were in desperate need of drummer and he was in desperate need of a band. So things all worked out well!

4. Each band member favourite band?

Kyle – Linkin Park
Max – Napoleon
Rory – Counterparts
Jeremy – N.E.R.D
Joe - Citizen

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Inspiration comes from all kinds of places but in terms of bands I’d say Volumes and Counterparts are probably two pretty safe bets for bands that we all dig and have gained inspiration from. Vocally Kyle listens to a lot of R&B and Electronic stuff so the majority of lyrics and patterns are somewhat based off those kind of vibes.

6. Where was your last gig?

Last gig we played was a really cool show at a local venue for us called Wrangler. We’ve been lucky enough to play there a few times and are yet to have a single bad experience!

7. Where would you like to act?

If by act you mean perform, I mean ideally give us a sold out Wembley Stadium! But realistically being Melbourne locals, Festival Hall and the Corner Hotel would be really cool. And in terms of countries we’d be keen to play pretty much everywhere, we ain’t picky.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Oh that’s a big one! We’d absolutely love to tour with Counterparts,  Erra, Volumes, Napoleon and Invent Animate that’s for sure. On an even bigger scale a tour with someone like Kanye or Drake would be one hell of an experience. Good chance we’d be booed off stage but you know, whatever Kanye touches people seem to love, so I’m sure we could work with that kind of situation!

9. Whom not?

Really not too many bands or artists I can think of that we wouldn’t be down to tour with. Maybe someone with some shady history (not naming names), but yeah that’s probably about the only deterrent.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Honestly we all have at some stage. This was everyone’s first serious band so we’ve just been learning as we go really. I’d still consider us beginners but I guess the main thing is to just have fun with it, and half the time no one even notices the mistakes you think are incredibly noticeable.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Sound wise Volumes, Counterparts, Northlane but on a larger spectrum a band like Parkway Drive was the reason we probably all started to shift towards heavy music in the first place.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Once we had a dude from Morocco ask us to send him a tee. We were all cool with sending it to him for free but it 100% got lost somewhere, in some ocean, some place far away, and sadly our Moroccan friend never received the merch.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Lots of love for anyone that likes our music or supports the band. Everyone that has ever approached us has been incredibly nice and it’s cool because people really don’t have to come up and let you know they enjoy your set, or music, or whatever it may be, so it means a lot when they do.

14. What do you think of our site?

Super cool how you guys help out smaller bands and don’t just focus on the big names. There’s a good mix of interviews, news and videos too. If only there were more sites like yours!

15. Something to add?

We’ve got a single dropping on the 16th of May with something more substantial coming shortly after, and personally we think it’s kind of cool, so hopefully you do too!
