Interviews: One Gone Thus

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore band One Gone Thus, from USA. Check out this band because they are amazing and do not forget to follow them in their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name?

Greg/Ryan: The name One Gone Thus is a bastardized english translation of an ancient Sanskrit/Pali word, Tathāgata.  There are various interpretations but simply put it is meant to convey an idea beyond to construct of “duality”.  Right and wrong, in and out, self and other, these are the ways in which we have been conditioned to interact with the world around us.  One Gone Thus is a concept that lies beyond these dualistic notions.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Greg/Ryan: Neither of us intended or wanted to play this or any genre really. We both write in very different styles, with very different influences, and come from unique musical backgrounds.  It is the combination and convergence of our two respective styles that has helped shaped our sound.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Greg: Prior to starting One Gone Thus, we were both part of another project. Ryan had worked with one of the other members in that band for a few years before we all come together and I became part of the project after replying to an ad on craigslist about a group looking for new members. Casual encounters + Dudes + Music = One Gone Thus

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Ryan: Bad Religion and Backstreet Boys

Greg: Saosin and NSYNC - (Backstreet boys suck)  BYE BYE BYE

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Greg/Ryan: Musically we both prefer writing songs that allow us to creatively experiment with different styles.  When it comes to the lyrics, we just write about what we know and enjoy.

6. Where would you like to play?

Greg/Ryan: Currently we have yet to explore the option of playing live as logistically it would be rather difficult.  If the time and opportunity were to ever present itself, it would be great to play the main stage at Warped Tour or Coachella.

7. Whom would you like to feature with?

It would be amazing, if we were ever lucky enough, to work with Casey Crescenzo.

8. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Ryan: I have suffered with anxiety and stage fright for most of my life.  The only tip I have is to force yourself to get on stage.  You are probably going to be terrified and you are probably going to sound terrible but like most phobias and anxiety related issues exposure therapy is a great way to recondition yourself and positively change your perspective.

9. What bands have inspired you the most?

Ryan: My biggest influence growing up was Greg Graffin.  He made me want to be a musician and songwriter.  Thrice though is the one band whose path and trajectory I would most like to emulate.

Greg: I would say bands like Saosin (w/ Anthony Green), New Found Glory, Blink and Anberlin were my biggest influences.

10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Greg: Underwear… No, seriously.  I won’t go into detail but it happens.

11. What do you think of your fans?

Greg: Dude, the oscillation setting….to die for. Especially on a hot summer’s day. *italian hand gesture kiss*.  There’s like 13 of them and we love each and every one.  In all seriousness though, of the people who do follow us and who genuinely enjoy what we’ve put out so far their support means everything to us and we want to be able to share everything we do with them which is why the album will be FREE.

12. What do you think of our site?

It’s great!  It’s really well polished and professional in its design.  You guys also have a really intuitive layout.  It’s very easy to navigate and a great place to catch up on all the latest music news and downloads.

13. Something to add?

Remember - “All things are impermanent and subject to change”.
