News: SUMAC PREPARE FOR RELEASE OF NEW ALBUM, START WEST COAST TOUR‏

As they prepare for the release of their new full-length What One Becomes, due out June 10th, powerhouse trio SUMAC will tour the Western portion of the United States starting tomorrow and running through June 4th.  The tour will take the band, which features Aaron Turner (Mamiffer, Old Man Gloom, Isis), Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists), Brian Cook (Russian Circles, Botch, These Arms Are Snakes), through Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas - check out the full tour routing below.  Furthermore, SUMAC have posted a West Coast tour video trailer which is viewable here.

What One Becomes was tracked at The Unknown in Anacortes, WA and mixed at GodCity Studios in Salem, MA with Kurt Ballou and the resulting five-song, hour-long LP is a dense aggregate of rhythm, force, and vigor.  The album’s first single, “Rigid Man” (streaming now on YouTube), begins as a lurching epithet that finds the trio in a shadow boxing lockstep for the song’s first half of pugilistic rhythm and noise, only to smash itself on the ground amidst a diabolical feedback whorl from Turner’s guitar and to tear free from the rhythmic underbelly.  Sumac channels psychic distress into their rigorously algebraic maneuvers and syllable-crack dissonance. The songwriting on What One Becomes is unparalleled, unhinged expressionism in all forms.
